Customer Reviews

Compact and concise4
This dictionary contains listings for about 10,000 words. Being a "concise" dictionary, most of the definitions are very short, mostly one-for-one word equivalents. Fortunately the romanization system is pinyin. It is compact enough to be easily carried in one's pocket. I would say that in situations where luggage space is limited, for the number of entries versus size, it is well worth the money.

Nowhere near the Oxford Press Concise1
You will regret buying this when you see everyone else in China using the Oxford Press/Shangwu Yinshuguan Concise Chinese-English English-Chinese Dictionary. That dictionary has a much larger vocabulary and better indexes. Search Amazon again under Oxford's editor A.P. Cowie.

Very good for the tyro (like me)3
The vocabulary is slightly limited and the chinese charactars too small for untrained eyes to make out. Great for learning vocabulary but not good for learning the written language
