A well informed writing on Osama Bin Laden's life, motivations, and war on the United States and those whom he perceives as a threat to Islam. I have to definitively say that this is the most important of all Scheuer's 3 books so far. It dispels the mythology around Bin Laden that is damaging to the internal US discourse. Should be read by everyone who engages in US foreign policy debate.

Huge in scope and highly informational. This book dives into the nitty gritty of the Afghan conflict and delivers a highly detailed, well researched account of the soviet and taliban experiences in Afghanistan. Also provides a firm picture of Pakistan's involvement.

Washington Post journalist Thomas Ricks critically important work on the US Iraqi occupation. This book is the best dissection and analysis of the war to date. It was a highly influential writing and even got some notice by those in the military establishment.

Definitely a more advanced writing. Requires some familiarity with Islam and modern middle eastern history. It is a wealth of writing on Islamic activists in Saudi Arabia. These are of speakers who have influenced islamic movements around the world. The author examines primary sources (tapes, manuscripts, sermons).
