AMAZING
i play this cd at the bar i work at, and everybody wants to know what it is and how to get it. It is a revolutionary cd, combining arabic music with funky beats. A MUST HAVE!
Another Mix of Arabic Electronica
Following on the release of Mourad Mazouz's 'Arabesque,' this second CD in the series is good, but it doesn't have nearly the appeal of the first release (or some of the many Arabic-themed lounge albums that collowed). Nonetheless, it is still an enjoyable blend of electronic music drawing on the cultures of the Middle East and North Africa. Many of the obvious names of the Arabesque genere are here - dZihan & Kamien, Nikodemis, Karmix, and of course the ever popular Natacha Atlas. Theres also a remixed track from talented oud-player Omar Faruk Tekbilek and, further afield, North Indian Gypsy chanting performed by Musafir. But the real focus here seems to be Algerian rai - there are tracks from Khaled, Rachid Taha, even Cheikha Rimitti, and the Egyptian orchestral 'Khalliouni Khalliouni' from the '1, 2, 3 Soleils' concert (which featured Khaled, Faudel and Rachid Taha together!). This release isn't an essential recording of Arabic music, as there are some other good compilations out there I'd recommend first, but it is a well worth owning anyway, whether you choose to dance to it or just chill with it playing in the background. I'd still go for the first Arabesque CD myself.
Momo's Arabesque discs are awesome!
Don't delay! Go get yours today and enjoy some great tunes.
