Perfect for use at home or on trips, this mechanical diet scale from Salter is lightweight, stores compactly with a snap-on lid inside its own weighing container, and is absolutely easy to use. The scale measures items weighing up to 16 ounces (500 g) in precise 1/4-ounce (5 g) increments, making it ideal for dietary or baby needs.

Made of durable plastic that wipes clean, the scale features a 2-3/4-inch round dial and a small platform that snugly weds the underside of the weighing container. After the container is positioned in place, simply turn the knob until the dial needle registers zero. Add and weigh food as needed, resetting to zero after each ingredient if desired. If acidic or strongly colored foods such as oranges, curries, and tomatoes are to be weighed, it’s a good idea to line the container with plastic wrap first. The container is dishwasher-safe, but should not be used in a microwave. The scale itself measures 3 by 2-1/2 by 4-1/2 inches, while the container (and thus the storage size) measures 4-3/4 by 3-3/4 by 3 inches. Does it's job.
I bought this because I needed to weigh some ingreedients for a cake I was making, and, living in a small town, had no other options.

Five bucks is a fair price for this thing. It measures accurately, if you don't mind getting on eye-level with the counter to read it. Setting it to zero is kinda a pain, as a full twist of the knob only moves the needle about 1/8 of an ounce. But, if you're in a pinch or have low expectations, this thing does a fine job.

I've got a Baker's Dream scale on it's way to replace it, because this little thing just does not meet the needs of anyone who needs a serious cooking scale. But I suppose that's not quite what it's designed for.

Decent, does it's job, very small. Good enough if that's all you need.

This food scale worked perfectly for me! I have been trying to lose weight by controlling my portions and this was exactly what I needed. The scale measures in both grams and ounces, and the best part is that it is so light-weight (yet durable), and it comes in a compact storage tuperware container that also doubles as a food container. It is small and light enough that I can take it anywhere. I really love it!
