Authentic Detail and Movie Sounds
With this replica, the modelers at Playmates have accurately recreated the 2009 version of the Enterprise to the finest detail. Constructed completely from plastic, it measures a foot in length and is about six inches across. The primary "saucer" area has been sculpted to imitate the contoured surface of the original ship, and features painted windows and insignias. Atop the saucer is the Enterprise's bridge, which lights up with the push of a button. The ship's deflector and warp engine nacelles also light up and blink with a blue glow.

Upon pressing the button, you'll also be treated to sound effects taken straight from the movie. You'll hear the engine roar and the Bussard collectors whirring. The replica even plays back real dialogue between Kirk (Chris Pine) and Spock (Zachary Quinto).

Explore the Final Frontier -- From Your Office Desk
The Enterprise comes with a unique, ice-blue display stand that will easily fit on a desk. It attaches to the replica using a ball bearing, allowing you to angle and position the ship as you please.

It should be noted that this replica is based on the movie, and is not based on the classic NCC-1701 design from the original Star Trek series. The Enterprise was reinvented for the latest movie and features an updated, more modern look. The primary hull of the original ship has been "smoothed out" for a sleeker, streamlined shape. Still, this is the ideal model for any serious fan of the 2009 movie.

Not what I was expecting in a Good way4
First off, let me just say that the official picture for the toy does it no justice at all. There's actually a lot more detail and color variation than is shown, it's no diamondselect but its better than what I was expecting from the picture, and leaps and bounds over the previous playmate movie enterprises.

The lights are very vibrant with a nice blue glow that is emitted from the bridge, bussard collectors, deflector dish, impulse engines, rear nacelles, and beneath the saucer.

The ship is also packed with a blue stand with a ball in socket style mounting to allow for different posing.

The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that upon opening the box I found it to be laughably small in comparison to the size of the box. The enterprise itself is 14.5 inches from tip to tip with the saucer measuring 7 inches. it's not dinky by any means and actually fits in nicely with the DS toys, but having bought it without seeing any measurements before hand made opening the box a bit of a shocker.

Overall I highly recommend this and think its a great buy, regardless of its size.

Not A Bad Little Toy4
Don't be fooled by the box. The approximate length of the ship is about 15 inches, and the diameter of the saucer is about 7 inches. With the outer dimensions of the box being what they are, you could ALMOST fit two of these inside. One positive thing about the oversized box is that the toy itself is well protected if the package gets dropped!

The ship appears to be a decent representation of the Enterprise as it appears in the new movie ( judging from publicity stills and shots from the trailer...at the time of this writing, the movie has not been released ). There are a few noticeable discrepancies; the saucer seems a bit small, and the positioning of the nacelles on their struts is just a bit further forward than the actual movie design ( most likely kids won't care much ).

Being a Playmates toy, the detailing is pretty good, if basic. It definitely looks like a toy, as opposed to offerings from Art Asylum which look far more painted and finished, and closer to models than toys. There are a lot of visible screws, especially on the underside of the saucer, which has a second, unfortunately placed, battery compartment that does not seem to fit completely flush. The ship is molded in off-white/gray plastic, and seems pretty durable. The stand is molded in a transparent blue, with a silver painted starfleet insignia. The top is a ball joint, which fits into the bottom of the ship's engineering hull, and allows the ship to be posed in different positions. This stand seems relatively sturdy, and less likely to break than similar stands included with Art Asylum offerings. There are four sound and lighting effects which play at random when the top of the bridge dome is pressed. These include lines from Chris Pine as Kirk and Zachary Quinto as Spock:

-"Arm phasers, fire everything we've got" ( followed by sound effects with flickering lights )
-"Captain, engineering reports ready for launch" ( engine lights slowly brighten and impulse engines come on, with a sound effect )
-"Maneuvering thrusters, Mr. Sulu" ( lights slowly brighten, and rear engine tips light up )
-Sound effect- red alert klaxon ( all lights flicker )

The lights are quite bright ( and with the exception of the red impulse engines and some small points on the saucer, all blue ) there is some light bleed through the plastic, but not too horrendous. The glowing deflector dish is particularly nice, as is the glowing 'spoke' pattern behind the front engine domes, which is reminiscent of the original television series Enterprise.

Keeping in mind that this is a toy, marketed AS a toy for kids and not as a super-detailed collectors piece for adults, this is a pretty nice piece. Also, it's great to have a model of the new Enterprise available for viewing in advance of the movie release.

Definatly needs improvments3
Got this item Monday. Some parts of this item does not look like the ship from the movie. A few of the lights show through the plastic and there is extra lights being shown on the Nacells which should not be there. Also you can see the screws along the Saucer section. I got a NCC-1701 Refit model that looks more accurate then this thing. For any buyers, I suggest you wait for a AMT or Polar Lights Model to come out if they do make one and if they do, if you prefer it have lights, definatly wait for that. This thing is pretty much like the Refit Enterprise. A few different movie quotes and different light patterns. Would love to get a 1/350 Scale with lights you can have on at night.
