Ragged Tattercoats lived in the kitchen of her grandfather's castle. She had hardly any friends and no freedom. Although she loved to dance, she was not allowed to go to the ball. The author has also written "Charlie, Emma and Alberic" and "The Mice of Nibbling Village".

Editorial Reviews
From School Library Journal
Kindergarten-Grade 2-- An English variant of Cinderella. Greaves's unadorned, barebones text is sadly lacking the verbal and imaginative richness of Jacobs's traditional telling, in which setting, character, and background are penned with quick economical strokes. Here the language is dull and flat, leaving readers unsatisfied, uninvolved, and skeptical of motivation and magic. Disconcerting, too, are Chamberlain's sprightly illustrations. Colorful and imbued with a sense of fun, they seem to have found themselves in the wrong book, for they are badly out of sync with the story. The unrelenting cartoon style and buffoonish faces lead viewers to anticipate some witty dialogue or a tart, modernized telling, making Greaves's uninspired text all the more disappointing. Stick with Jacobs (Putnam, 1989) or Steel (Bradbury, 1976; o.p.). --Linda Boyles, Alachua County Library District, Gainesville, FL

good addition
I collect Cinderella books for my students and use it as a compare and contrast lesson. It is a cute book and a great addition to my collection. :)
