Editorial Reviews
From School Library Journal
Grade 3-5-This colorful and amusing book has lots of games and exercises designed to show the power of the brain. The activities test reflexes (catching a dropping ruler) and challenge mental skills ("which of the five is least like the others?"). The writing at times tries too hard to be lighthearted: "The human brain (even your little brother's) is very special." Still, this is not intended to be a textbook, so within the narrow framework of a game book, it is fine. There are a few diagrams of dendrites and lobes of the brain, but for the most part the cartoon illustrations are of smiling kids and animals learning about the brain with paper clips, balloons, and, in one experiment, a "large and discarded piece of wool or fake fur."-Christine A. A Great Introduction to Our Brain for Children
I think it is a great introduction for 9-12 year olds. It is written in a friendly, conversational manner with comic style illustrations. I have been going through this book with my 12, 10 and 8 year olds. We have really enjoyed exploring the many different aspects of our brain.
The book has lots of activities to try; experiments to perform, models to make, riddles to solve... It does not go into much detail in any area. If your child is particulary interested in an aspect of the brain you would need to find other resources.
A fun way to start learning about how our brain works.
