Product Description

Summer is over and that can only mean one thing for eight-year-old Mallory McDonald (like the restaurant, but no relation)--she has to go back to school. But not just any school, a new school with all new kids in it. To make matters worse, her mom is going, too! She's the new music teacher, and Mallory can't think of anything that could possibly be worse--until her first day. She has to sit with Pamela, who always says the right thing and steals her ideas. Joey is so busy with his old friends that he has no time for her, and to top it off, she's picked to be an eggplant in the Fall Festival her mom is putting on. It's not fair! What can Mallory do? Should she give Pamela, and her new school, another chance?

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal
Grade 2-4–In this sequel to Mallory on the Move (Carolrhoda, 2004), Mallory McDonald starts third grade at a new school in a new town, away from her best friend and her old life. To make matters worse, her mother is the new music teacher. To top it all off, Mallory goes to school on the first day with nail polish stuck to her face; then she gets the part of an eggplant in her mother's Fall Festival. The eight-year-old cleverly pins blame for the nail polish on her cat; but when she pretends to break a leg onstage to avoid performing, she sets up a dramatic, emotional episode that will leave kids holding their breaths to see the repercussions of her actions. This beginning chapter book has large, friendly print and fun, accessible illustrations showing easily identifiable emotions and situations. Friedman's engaging writing style makes for enjoyable reading and, despite Mallory's problems, there is a foundation of happiness within the novel that encourages readers and makes them want to hear more of the child's story.–Tracy Karbel, Glenside Public Library District, Glendale Heights, IL

This book was very funny5
This book was funnier than funny. It has very likable characters. Her parents were funny and I liked her friend Marianne. My favorite part was when Mallory had to be an eggplant in the school play. This was the best book I ever read.

Back to school goodness!5
Great book. My 3rd graders can't wait to read it too!A new invaluable piece to my back to school classroom library.

Fantastic!5
I loved this book. If you have read Junie B. Jones, Amber Brown, Lucy Rose, Judy Moody or Clarice Bean you will love Mallory. She is funny and makes silly comments and sometimes goes a little over board. I am 11 and this book will make a high schooler LOL.You and other readers will enjoy this book. I will soon have all of the Mallory books and you could too. So get the book and enjoy this great book. Maybe you can read other books by the author Laurie Friedman. I'm very sure all of her book are as great as these books.
