Product Description

This book, Foes of the King James Bible Refuted, is important because of the various arguments that have been set forth against both the King James Bible and the Hebrew and Greek texts that underlie it. Such arguments have arisen in the past, are arising in the present, and will arise in the future.

Here are refutations of some of the leading foes of the Grand Old Version, the King James Bible. These include a television personality, a spokesman for the New American Standard Version, a spokesman for the New King James Version, a professor from Dallas Theological Seminary, and an anti-King James Bible author.

Their arguments are not new. They have been around ever since the days of Bishop Brook Foss Westcott and Professor Fenton John Anthony Hort and their forerunners. Look at the principles discussed in this book, rather than at the personalities involved. There are many additional things that could be said on any given subject touched upon in this book. These answers are offered in somewhat abbreviated form so that there can be an interaction with the subject matter without further delay.

The book is completely indexed for the convenience of the readers so that they can turn immediately to any subject or person that might interest them. There is also a Scripture index to enable the readers to find information on the various verses that were mentioned.

[This selection comes from page 6.] You can never correct the original text of Hebrew and Greek that God authored and has preserved with English, Spanish, French or any other translation. This is one of the very heresies with which John Ankerberg and others on his program wanted to tarnish all who hold to the King James Bible. He wanted to make it look like all of us who hold to that Bible believe as Dr. Gipp that the King James Bible can disagree even with the Textus Receptus which is the Greek text from which it was taken.

Dr. Gipp could also have said that he believes that the King James Bible corrects even the Masoretic Hebrew Text from which it was translated. I believe that the King James Bible is an excellent translation. It is the most accurate translation from the Greek and Hebrew texts that underlie it. But you cannot corrupt and change the Greek and Hebrew text and correct it with the English King James Bile or any other language version. This is illogical, unscriptural and should never be done.

I believe that those Hebrew manuscripts that underlie the King James Bible have been preserved by God Himself in keeping with His promise in Psalm 12:6-7 and many other verses. This is called the Masoretic Traditional Hebrew Text edited by Ben Chayyim in the 1520's. Since, as I believe, God preserved His original Hebrew Words by means of these accurate copies, these copies give us the very words that God gave to the original writers of the Old Testament such as Moses, David, Samuel, and the others.

In the same manner, I believe that the Greek manuscripts that underlie the King James Bible have been preserved by God Himself in keeping with His promise in Psalm 12:6-7 and many other verses. This is called the Traditional Greek Text or the Textus Receptus from Beza's 5th edition in 1598. Since as I believe, God preserved His original Greek Words by means of these accurate copies, these copies give us the very words that God gave to the original writers of the New Testament such as Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Paul, Peter, James, and the others.

I believe that those Hebrew and Greek words God has preserved for us. He promised to preserve His words. I believe He has preserved them in those Hebrew and Greek manuscripts that we have today. The King James Bible in 1611 was translated accurately, professionally, reliably, and in a sound theological manner from those original language manuscripts. We cannot change those original language manuscripts by the King James Bible and try to correct them that way and say they give us some "advanced revelation."

An Excellent book!5
D.A. Waite does a good job of refuting John ankerberg and other's with well researched documentation. For those who read the King James Bible, It will boost your confidence in the infallibility of the K.J.V.! For those who read the new versions(N.I.V, N.K.J.V, N.A.S.V) it will give you a point to ponder on! An Excellent read!

Garbage1
D.A. Waite is a liar. His "scholar society," the Dean Burgon Society, takes the name of a scholar who didn't believe the TR was infallible, but instead advocated a different approach to textual criticism than that advanced by Wescott and Hort. (Burgon, for example, didn't believe that 1 John 5:7 belonged in the Bible.)Waite distorts this man's beliefs and name for his own gain.

This book is no better. Aside from the frequent use of caps and boldface that clearly mark this book as the product of an inferior mind, the book is totally dishonest and avoids dealing the real issues. (If you can dig up an old copy of the KJV-Only 'zine "O Timothy," you'll find an article where Waite admits that he never really understood his subject matter in seminary. Waite's "testimony" is right next to that Ian Paisley, an Orange militia leader in Northern Ireland who's best known for stirring up violence in his home country. Such great men lead the KJV-Only movement...)

Here are facts:

* Modern Bibles like the NAS and NIV teach the deity of Christ and the Trinity more often than the KJV (compare 2 Pet. 1:1, Col. 1:19, John 1:18, Acts 16:7, etc.) In fact, the KJV has profound Christological defects in Acts, Romans, Titus, and Colossians. If the modern Bibles were intentionally corrupt, why do they lift Christ's name higher than the KJV?

* Virtually all great Christian leaders - from Spurgeon to Scofield - embraced textual criticism with joy. Textual criticism assures us that the Bible is accurate and was faithfully transmitted to us by previous generations. Even blatant liberals admit this. Bruce Metzger of the NRSV (liberal translation) committee says that not one word in 1,000 in the NT is doubted, and nothing of doctrinal importance is affected. Anti-Christians like John Crossan, Marcus Borg, and John Spong don't argue that the text is corrupt - they just argue that the text is made up of myths and lies.

* There is no Greek text that matches the KJV is all details. The idea that the KJV somehow represents the "Majority Text" is a lie, plain and simple. Get a complete version of the NKJV. It has notes on the MJ text. The MJ text often agrees with the Alexandrian Text - especially in verses that have profound doctrinal importance, like Acts 16:7 and John 5:7. If God supposedly preserved his Word through a continual stream of perfectly-copied Greek manuscripts, where are they? Isn't it more likely that God preserved his Word the same way he did in 2 Kings 22-23? That's exactly what happened in the Alexandrian Text. (When I slammed David Cloud with this argument, even he had to acknowledge the TR/KJV is imperfect and doesn't represent the original texts.)

* KJV-Onlyists don't even behave like Christians. I hate to judge people, but let's call a spade a spade! Are paranoia, slander, deception, dishonesty, rage, spite, and authoritarianism the KJV's "fruit of the spirit?"

Write your own history2
Dr. Waite basically concludes "if you don't like history, just make something up." He dodges the fact that the Hebrew that the KJV relies on (Masoretic Text) is much later than than the Septuagint and sometimes is corrupt (Psalms 50/51 and 21/22 are good examples). The Septuagint predates the Masoretic by at least 700 years, and was the accepted version of the Old testament until the Protestant reformation.

Don't get me wrong, I like the KJV, and some of his attacks on modern versions are founded. But he completely distorts history to prove his points. Many people have used his ideas as a test of loyalty to Christ -- "If it ain't KJV, it ain't Bible" a bumper sticker says.
