Product Description

Led by their charismatic and photogenic vocalist Ville Valo, H.I.M. is set to be the hottest alternative rock act of the decade. Fusing gothic, heavy metal, and power pop, the band has established a new musical genre, which it describes as “love metal,” that transcends existing genres and gives it the crossover appeal that has generated album sales in excess of 3 million. In H.I.M: His Infernal Majesty, Barry Keating recounts the story of the band’s rise from a Helsinki covers group playing everything from Chris Isaak to Blue Oyster Cult to a global rock phenomenon. Through interviews and anecdotes, Keating explores the band’s unique ethos and influences, and the genesis of the love metal sound, as well as the band's quest to bring goth music to the masses. Featuring a wealth of eye-catching images, the book details the breathtaking way in which H.I.M.'s singular approach to music has brought it to the cusp of global stardom.

Customer Reviews

A HIM fan must.5
I just became a HIM fan this past year. So I have been getting anything HIM related that I can get my hands on. I really enjoyed this book! It is informative and has some really nice pictures. I think any HIM fan should own it.

An Absolute Must-Have For a HIM Fan5
This is a beautifully written book about the band, each member, and every album that they released up to date of the books publishing. The pictures are stunning, some of which you definitely won't find on the web unless you get the scans (which I bet wouldn't be the same as holding the actual thing in your hands).

I love the quotes (by Valo and some of the other band members) inserted in various places all over the book. It includes a lot of first-hand information - think of it as a super long article from Kerrang! magazine.

The book took me a few hours to read. Every now and then I come back to it and read it all over again. It's just one of those books that are really fun and enjoyable to read. Highly recommended especially for those fans who crave exceptional commentary and never before seen detailed information about the band.

Interesting4
The first 20 pages of this book to me were a little plain and not interesting. I lost interest and stopped reading, but then picked it up again and finished the last 100 pages in about 3 days. There is alot of info on the albums that they have come out with and the singles they have had. I really enjoyed this book. I actually dont really read much, if anything at all. but once i get my hand on a good music book i really enjoy it. This is one of those books.
