Out there for an hour
It took three albums, a couple of revamped line-ups and just enough analog synth muscle for Tangerine Dream to achieve this perfect piece of electronic stasis. It feels like floating in a charged nebula, drifting slowly across the endless dark void. Unlike their subsequent Virgin voyages (Phaedra, Rubicon, etc) there are no sequencers or arpegiators to add at least a little supportive structure and movement. This makes the music even more challenging than such relative works as Pompeii era Floyd or Miles' late sixties musings.

Given that there is not much to hold onto except what you can bring into this, this disc cannot be recommended for even moderately pleasant meditation, let alone the airy kind of new age meringue that the group would eventually settle into by the Poland concert. This is hard core stuff, even by early Krautrock standards. But for a few folks, this may be just about as good as it gets.
