Great show!! 5 stars!!
I didn't think this dvd would see the light of day after all of the delays but I'm glad it was finally released. It's in widescreen format and the only audio option is 5.1 surround. This is the Cult at their best! Great energy from the band. The show sounds great in surround sound. The video quality is good also but Instant Live lost some of the quality of the recording by putting it on a single layer dvd. No matter, this is definitely one for your concert library!
I agree with the prior reviews but this DVD still rocks
Yes, the camera angle changes every two seconds, and I find it annoying.
Yes, Ian Astbury takes liberties with the vocals and is clearly trying to preserve his voice as much as he can. As I singer, I can relate. You may do stuff on album that you simply can't belt out quite so loud and long live, especially 20+ years after you first recorded it! Another liberty is occasionally sprinkling Doors lyrics into the songs as improvs, which I find fascinating.
Yes, I an does seem angry at the beginning of the DVD. But about halfway thru his comments start to lighten up. It's the healing power of rock I suppose.
However, despite these issues, this DVD seriously rocks. The band is very tight, and Ian is generally singing his butt off. They do show John Tempesta (in 2 second bursts of course) and he plays very true to the source material, but very well. If you look at the track listing, most of the songs are off the first two albums, which is very cool IMO.
Bottom Line (literally) - if you like the Cult, you get rocked by this disc despite its flaws.
Cult - Irving Plaza DVD
Awesome! The Cult still rocks after many of their peers have gone by the wayside.
