The release date is early February, but it's hard to imagine a more hotly anticipated kids' CD arriving all year. Here Come the 123s, the companion piece to 2005's Here Come the ABCs, is among the buzziest properties to hit kid-land since Laurie Berkner started shaking things up in the late '90s. That's because the artists behind it are the kinds of geniuses who merit a thousand-page expose in The New Yorker but also know how to bust out a proper jam. The Johns--that's John Flansburgh and John Linnell to the uninitiated--have accomplished what no other respected rock band has done with these discs: they've blown the lid off They Might Be Giants' otherwise cultish fan base and brokered themselves a deal with a couple of generations. TMBG have made bright and extremely quirky pop songs out of stuff you learn in preschool (the ABCs and 123s), and 2- to 10-year-olds, as well as their clever, discriminating parents, get to feel good--and maybe learn something, too. Top top top stuff for kids of any age
My daughter, at the tender age of 19 months loves this CD - so much so that she cries if we try to put anything else on. She only wants to hear TMBG now. The ABCs and No! get the exact same treatment. My wife and I are only praying that they come out with more children's stuff so we can vary it up a bit. Gotta say, even after countless hearings the songs never wear on your ears. There are just so many levels to them.

Pure fun!
Once again, TMBG take the prize for most fun and infectious music. Their lyrics are so clever - how great to assume kids are smart and funny! I frequently find myself singing "Oh no no I never go to work" or "Pirate girls" when I least expect it. This is also a great value because you get the CD and the videos on the DVD. Personally, I like this one even more than "here come the ABCs."

Even better than the ABC's
I liked TMBG's other children's CDs as well, but this CD is the best yet. I find myself singing some of the songs to myself even when my kid isn't listening to the CD. It's fantastic! They really are might be giants!
