You've got to hand it to Taylor Dayne. For all the gruel she's foisted on the pop music market, her return to recording after an eight-year hiatus passes muster. Dayne is nothing if not consistent. She may have almost as many "hits" compilations as she has studio albums, but each offering packs a few exhilarating surprises. The first of those in question is the calypso-fueled "She Don't Love You." An easy-going mixed chorus perfectly evinces the lyrical snarl implied in the title, while the drum kit and auxiliary percussion riff the message through with tropical abandon. And how has it taken so long for a woman to cover Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Under the Bridge," never mind giving the song the blaring horn section it should have had the first time around? After a title track that sounds tailor-made for any dentist's lobby, the schmaltzy "Dedicated" finds Dayne braying forgettable promises about love, and it's not for a few tracks that things pick up again. "Crash" brings back the brass, which always meets Dayne's near-rasp with a kindred texture that elevates both. In all, fans will find plenty to pluck here, for both the dance floor and the headphones. Satisfied, indeed. --Jason Kirk

with ms. dayne's new cd, play'n u can't help feel'n a connection to her lyrics and sound. u will find this cd consistent with what u would expect from her; varied, rich music complimenting her real-life lyrics that are powered out with her no-gimicky distortions voice that u can hear her heart in. sweet.

Nice to hear her back, but needs more upbeat songs 3
Taylor Dayne releasing a new album [ CD ] is great to see . The time away since the last album must have made her more contented, having two children, which shows with her love of ballads on this release. But there are too many slow songs on here, in my opinion. The fastest it gets are the midtempo songs like BEAUTIFUL, most of which are nice songs. Taylor still has that soulful voice that can belt it out. Being an artist who in the past has had a variety of styles, and many hits in the dance/pop/soul vein, this new album needs more of that. I would love an uptempo dance song on here, like her classic hits. Or how about singing an outright rock song , along the lines of her great YOU CAN'T FIGHT FATE? She chose rock songs like UNDER THE BRIDGE and FOOL TO CRY to cover. They are merely nice, but again, more ballads. What about a rocker on here ? Maybe motherhood has made her too complacent. I find some of the ballads on here downright dull. She's still young, she should be rocking out more, not singing songs for an old lady. Let's hope she brings it, like she can on her next one.

I Love her VOCALS!5
I've been a Taylor Dayne fan since 1987. She has great vocals. With all the crappy singers out know with enhaced digital vocals, Taylor is one of those artist that can sing the hell out of a song. I do admitt some of her choices over the years have been hits and misses, but this album is a pleasant surprise. I Did not even know it was out. I happen to walk into circut city and found it. It was agood find. I still love taylor.
