Customer Reviews
OK, so they need to correct it...
Yes, they need to correct the listing. This album is titled "Alive on Arrival", which is quite an enjoyable album by Steve Forbert. Can those of us who own it try and push the "Wah! Not Dan Fogelberg!" reviews off the page? I mean, I like Fogelberg well enough, and own several of his albums as well, but Amazon really needs to get its act together and remove the reviews of an honest mistake.
fine album, artist 'software' glitch
Found this 'new' (2008) Steve Forbert rerelease of 1st album, and bet like 'rerelease' of Al Dimeola's Casino will actually be the old recording with a new UPC sticker attached. Artist is identified as Dan Fogelberg (a fine artist, but certainly not interchangable with Mr Forbert), but when added to Cart artist name reverts to correct name, Steve Forbert! (also found Brian Auger, fine keyboard player, called 'Mccoy Tyner' on another search - another significant product search mistake). Anyway, Steve Forbert's 1st record is excellent; 'Going Down to Laurel' is fine country-rock tune (but a touch too long), and 'Steve Forbert's midsummer night's toast' is even better, as he goes through a list of 'greivances'. Closing tune ( "You cannot win if you do not play") is a rousing piece; think the later tune by Joe Jackson " You can't get what you want..." for a lyrical comparison - simple idea, well executed. My favorite is "Thinkin'", a'folky' piece with a bit of harmonica soloing.
Dead on Arrival
I received Late on Arrival by Steve Forbet, I advised the vendor as to what had
happened and I received a second CD by Steve Forbet. Steve Forbet is no
Dan Fogelberg. Dan left a tremendous legacy of music, be it country, rock, pop,
bluegrass, or just beautiful ballads. I first heard of Dan when I purchased
the classic CD, Souvenirs. This is still his greatest work. It showcases his talent
as a musician and songwriter. Joe Walsh, later of Eagle fame, produced the CD.
The combination of Dan and Joe make this one of my all time favorite CDs.
This is a must for any collection. Through his career, he never failed me.
His Country Snows CD is a great bluegrass adventure. The Innocent Age,
a double CD is a monumental effort that includes several different genres
of music. It is a classic. Full Circle is a ballad driven CD that touches the heart.
Listen to Earth Anthem, it will take you on a magical journey. Phoenix was
his attempt to merge rock with soft ballads. There are several standout numbers
including Longer, the title cut, The Last to Know, and Heart Hotels.
Nether Lands was Dan's successful attempt at a concept CD. It works with
songs such as Promises Made, Lessons Learned, and the Title Cut. Great CD,
First Christmas Morning, Dan's only attempt at a Holiday CD is a masterpiece.
It could easily have been released during the year as a pop record. Each song
tells a story and every song is worth listening to. This is another great offering
from Dan. Dan joined forces with Tim Weisberg to produce the highly successful
Twin Sons of Different Mothers. The two most outstanding songs are Tell it To My Face
and Since You've Asked (Judy Collins song). Dan continued to release quality CDs until
his untimely death at such a young age. In time the music of Dan Fogelberg will stand
on their own. His music was powerful, yet gentle. He was one of the greats of pop, country, rock.
