They Are An Unpretentious Synthpop Duo, But Clarke & Bell Are Kings
By an Amazon.com customer
WonderlandWonderland by Erasure
Buy new: $8.96 / Used from: $0.72
1986: It sounds pretty naive and reminds me the beginning of Vince Clarke's career on DM and Yazoo. It's a good one, since some great songs by Erasure are present here. It owns actually 'only' 7 songs that I really love: Who Needs Love Like That, Oh L'Amour, Push Me Shove Me, Senseless, Cry So Easy, March On Down The Line and Say What.
The CircusThe Circus by Erasure
Buy used from: $2.80
1987: It's my fave work from Erasure, mainly because of the presence of 3 terrific songs: Sometimes, Hideaway and The Circus, but I also love the majestic Spiralling, the underrated It Doesn't Have To Be, the sensational Leave Me To Bleed & Victim Of Love. Regarding Sexuality & Don't Dance, they are both ones very enjoyable. In short: this one is irresistible from the beginning to the end!
The Two Ring CircusThe Two Ring Circus by Erasure
Buy used from: $0.46
1987: Some fans tend to prefer this "other Circus" to the original album. Well, I'm definitely not one of those fans, but I admit the remixes to Hideaway & Leave Me To Bleed are really brilliant. Regarding the 3 re-recorded tracks, My Heart...So Blue was better than its original version while If I Could kept weak. In addition, the 'Live Circus' is great, specially Oh L'Amour & Gimme!Gimme!Gimme!.
The InnocentsThe Innocents by Erasure
Buy new: $12.99 / Used from: $0.01
1988: This album is a triumph of pop music despite I wouldn't include it on my Erasure's Top 3 ones at present. I love specially Yahoo!, Witch In The Ditch & Phantom Bride (a potential single), but all its 3 hit singles are wonderfully well-constructed pop ones. Hallowed Ground, Weight Of The World, Imagination & Heart Of Stone are good ones while River Deep, Mountain High is an excellent cover.
Wild!Wild! by Erasure
Buy used from: $0.01
1989: Wild! is just what its title suggests: a more powerful work in terms of sound&lyrics. Its 4 single tracks are excellent, but Piano Song & Brother And Sister are in the same level. Crown Of Thorns is a underrated&brilliant ballad while How Many Times? is a overrated&good one. La Gloria is a song that many fans hate, but I like it anyway and I consider 2,000 Miles is more than OK.
ChorusChorus by Erasure
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.14
1991: Chorus is their most perfect work to me and it could give a little respect to V&A from critics. All its songs are real pop gems, nevertheless I love specially the fantastic Chorus, the supercaptivating Waiting For The Day and Turns The Love To Anger, which owns a sensational turnabout on its last part. Am I Right?, Siren Song & Home are among their all-time best ballads.
POP! - 20 HitsPOP! - 20 Hits by Erasure
Buy new: $13.96 / Used from: $0.29
1992: Almost all songs present in this absolutely essential compilation are between great and great, except for the annoying Heavenly Action and the last track, which is just a so-so remix to a classic. This is simply a spectacular chance for hearing stunning classics like Oh L'Amour, Sometimes, A Little Respect, Stop!, Blue Savannah & Chorus on the same place!
I Say I Say I SayI Say I Say I Say by Erasure
Buy used from: $1.10
1994: I Say(X3) probably was recorded next to a cathedral, 'cos it's full of heavenly sounds. A very beautiful work. Andy's voice has never sounded so splendorous as on Take Me Back. Its other highest points are All Through The Years & Man In The Moon. Run To The Sun & I Love Saturday are able to make anyone dance even if you are in a bad mood while Always sounds like a touching&romantic dream.
ErasureErasure by Erasure
Buy new: $8.96 / Used from: $0.01
1995: How can I define the self-titled? Well, let me see... SUPERB! Even though it's their slowest work. I would point out 4 songs: the incredibly good Rescue Me (one of their most original ones), the superinfectious Fingers & Thumbs, the tragic Grace and the sweet & sad Stay With Me. Sono Luminus & A Long Goodbye are divine ballads while Angel is its most erasurish moment.
CowboyCowboy by Erasure
Buy used from: $0.89
1997: This is the most dancing album from V&A. You simply can't be stopped on hearing Cowboy and I really love it! It owns 5 brilliant songs at least: Save Me Darling, In My Arms, Rain, How Can I Say & Treasure. Boy (which owns the first openly gay lyrics from Andy), Worlds On Fire & Precious are half ballad/half dancing while Love Affair is its only real ballad (no shaking beat here).
LoveboatLoveboat by Erasure
Buy used from: $1.50
2000: For me it's just another underrated work from them. Ok, it isn't a masterpiece and it really sounds weird, but I believe it was intentionally recorded at this way. Anyhow it's a well-done synthpop one and it owns 3 of the most amazing songs ever made by V&A: Alien, Perchance To Dream & Catch 22. The other ones are between good and great, except for Mad As We Are & Here In My Heart(yawn!).
Other People's SongsOther People's Songs by Erasure
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $1.99
2003: V&A are one of the few pop duos talented enough to make a covers album so dazzling as this one. They could give Erasure's trademark to every song. Of course, some ones were boring (WITR & True Love Ways) or even needless (VKTRS & CHFILWY), but most of them were well-chosen and fit Erasure's sound well, specially Solsbury Hill, MMS(CUASM), EGTLS & Goodnight.
NightbirdNightbird by Erasure
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $2.43
2005: I must confess I had difficulties for enjoying properly this work, mainly because of its few creative lyrics in a general way, I mean Andy abused the use of cliches. But now I can recognize it owns several pleasing moments, such as Breathe, DSYLM (sensational lyrics), Sweet Surrender (brilliant lyrics), I Bet You're Mad At Me & ATTSFOOL.
Union StreetUnion Street by Erasure
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $1.34
2006: The best thing about this new compilation is that it owns only (great) ballads, since I consider they've always been underrated about their skills in doing this kind of song. Besides all its tracks were very well-played & well-sung and fit the acoustic format very well. Great&forgotten album tracks like Blues Away & Rock Me Gently received a new chance for being properly tasted it.
Light at the End of the WorldLight at the End of the World by Erasure
Buy new: $14.98 / Used from: $2.49
2007: Just try to imagine 10 perfect pop songs reunited in one only album, something you probably haven't heard in a long time, I guess. Sunday Girl & Darlene are instantaneous classics while Storm In A Teacup & When A Lover Leaves You are breathtaking ballads. And prepair your body to the festive Sucker For Love and your spirit to the impressive Glass Angel.
Pop 2! The Second 20 HitsPop 2! The Second 20 Hits by Erasure
Buy new: $25.98 / Used from: $14.30
2009: At last a 2nd comp which encompass all the singles they released after the excellent ABBA-Esque EP! For being quite frank, there aren't almost any big hits here. Nevertheless, these 19 songs are all pretty enjoyable, for saying the least, and maybe this make you think why their music have been so underappreciated by the pop audience during the last 15 years...
Chains of LoveChains of Love by Erasure
Buy used from: $3.28
1988: Chains Of Love is a terrific dancing pop song and it certainly deserved to be a big hit. Besides its single brings one of their best b-sides, Don't Suppose, and a great cover to the instrumental The Good, The Bad And The Ugly.
Am I Right?Am I Right? by Erasure
Buy used from: $1.98
1992: Am I Right? is a gorgeous ballad but I think it was a controversial choice for single since it's not exactly an 'easy' one for being appreciated it. I think Home would be a more commercial choice. Anyhow, this single brings also two very good b-sides, the soft Let It Flow and the delightful Waiting For Sex.
Abba-esqueAbba-esque by Erasure
Buy new: $8.96 / Used from: $0.01
1992: V&A received many negative critics for paying homage to ABBA on this EP, since they have always been taken as a dispensable disco-pop quartet by many people... Anyway I think Erasure redeemed them here. More than this: I dare to say they improved these 4 terrific pop songs by ABBA, mainly TACOM & SOS!
Stay with MeStay with Me by Erasure
Buy new: $11.99 / Used from: $0.50
1995: This CD single is probably one of the most underrated ones released by Erasure, since you can find here one of their best ballads - "Stay With Me" - and one of their best b-sides - "True Love Wars", which is actually an improved version to Guess I'm Into Feeling (the 1st track from the self-titled).
RainRain by Erasure
Buy used from: $17.95
1997: This maxi-single is amazing since it brings the sensational "Al Stone Mix" to Rain, great live performances, some good remixes and the absolutely superb b-side called First Contact!
Moon & the SkyMoon & the Sky by Erasure
2001: I love this maxi-single for two simple reasons: some of the remixes to Moon & The Sky sound incredibly good and some of the acoustic versions are very enjoyable. Actually the new version made by Jason Creasey to Moon & The Sky lost the darker atmosphere from its original one present in Loveboat for becoming more 'pop'.
Erasure 3 / EBX SinglesErasure 3 / EBX Singles by Erasure
Buy used from: $34.93
2001: Their 3rd box set is the best one to me since it brings 4 fantastic b-sides (Paradise, Runaround On The Underground, Dreamlike State & Supernature) + many great remixes + the whole version of Crackers International EP, which was originally released on Xmas time and it certainly would be a great gift 'cos it owns 2 perfect dancing songs + 2 perfect ballads! INDISPENSABLE!
Storm ChaserStorm Chaser by Erasure
Buy new: $7.98 / Used from: $2.89
2007: Another excellent EP released by Erasure, which contains well-done remixes to 5 songs from LATEOTW. Besides it brings the original version of "Early Bird", a very good duet with Cyndi Lauper. Its only fault is to bring the single version of "Storm In A Teacup", since this one doesn't own the whole instrumental part like the album version does.
Pop! RemixedPop! Remixed by Erasure
Buy new: $11.99 / Used from: $7.21
2009: Some of the best remixes of their songs can be found here! I'd point out "Freedom" by Mark Pichiotti, "Fingers & Thumbs" by SoundFactory and "Chorus" by Electronic Periodic.
Erasure - Hits! The VideosErasure - Hits! The Videos
Buy new: $17.99 / Used from: $2.00
2003: Most Erasure's videos are often taken as poor, anyhow I adore most of them, including the bizarre LAYLOM (or when Little Red Riding Hood met Snow White) & the original DSYLIKM. Besides all the 4 videos made for Chorus singles are wonderful just like the 3 ones from the self-titled age (the poetic Stay With Me, the all in blue Fingers&Thumbs and the black&white Rock Me Gently).
Erasure - The Tank, The Swan, and The Balloon LiveErasure - The Tank, The Swan, and The Balloon Live
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $9.88
2004: This show was originally recorded in 1992 as VHS format and now Mute finally released it on DVD for joy of the fans, since this is simply one of the best pop performances ever recorded! Even Vince Clarke lost his serious pose here on dressing himself as a 'country&western' pinky lady while Andy Bell played a 'brave' cowboy dressed in a shining&blue&tight&micro costume (yeeha!).
The Erasure Show - Live In CologneThe Erasure Show - Live In Cologne
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $5.90
2005: Mr. Bell & Mr. Clarke proved with this DVD that Erasure's reputation continues as high as possible regarding the fans, despite the bad treatment they receive from media & critics... They can be a 'uncool' thing for most people nowadays, but for their fans they'll always be the 'hottest' pop act!
Erasure - Acoustic - On the Road to Nashville (DVD + CD)Erasure - Acoustic - On the Road to Nashville (DVD + CD)
2006: If many folks were gladly surprised with their acoustic album, what to say about the tour to promote this one? This concert is stunning! You'll see that they found some fine solutions to perform some of their biggest hits in the acoustic format here, such as Blue Savannah, Victim Of Love and Love To Hate You.
Live at the Royal Albert HallLive at the Royal Albert Hall
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $7.24
2007: Well, since "Light At The End Of The World" is one of their best albums in my opinion, the tour to promote this one was equally great, specially because they performed almost all the songs from this work besides the hits they usually play during Erasure's tours.
