The strip building method was first introduced in the late '60s and has enjoyed an ever expanding following over the years. Little has changed in the basic method of construction; however, over the years new techniques and numerous refinements have been introduced, many of which you will find here. The one thing that has remained constant is that unquestionably, the popularity of strip built watercraft comes from the natural beauty of the wood they are made from. When coated with clear resin and fiberglass, the rich tones and colors of the cedar strips cry out to be touched and admired. The premise behind this book is that if you take your time, approach the project thoughtfully, and follow the guidance provided here, you will be able to successfully build a beautiful strip canoe without breaking the bank. Anyone with a little determination and patience can build one of these craft.

One trick pony
The rope clamp technique for stapleless construction is the only thing in this bok that doesn't seem to have come directly from Building the Strip Canoe by Gil Gilpatrick (much of this book reads like it came out of Gil's writing) or Canoecraft by Ted Mohr. Both of them provide clearer instructions and photos than you'll find here. They provide greater value with more plans documented, too. Canoecraft also provides instructions for stapleless construction if that's the route you'd like to take.
Excellent Book!
In my opinion strip built Canoe written by Randy Folsom is a well written book. I liked the content organization starts off from the basic areas and then dives into technical stuff as stripping, strip dimensions etc. I have built Canoe's for around 3 years now and the book brought out some great insights that were new to me as well. The illustrations are excellent as well. The language used by the author is simple enough to explain the technicalities very well. I believe this one of the best books out there for building Canoe's.
Great Book
Strip Built Canoe by Randy Folsom is a fantastic book especially if you have never built a cedar strip canoe before. He effectively explains every step of building a canoe and of course, adds his own insight which improves upon conventional construction methods. Above all, one of the best features is the authors website which has a support email address allowing you to ask him questions if you need additional information. There are many books out there on this subject which I have read through but in my opinion this one has helped me out the best.
