Amazon.com Review
The Whole Man Program is an integrated physical and emotional health program for males over 40. Psychotherapist and men's health educator Jed Diamond offers a roadmap for making life-enhancing changes in many areas that affect men. Diamond describes the "Male American Diet (MAD)," for example, as one that is high in saturated fat, and suggests ways to make healthy changes. He discusses "andropause"--midlife hormonal changes in men--and suggests options for reclaiming sexual vitality.
But this book goes deeper than diet and hormones; emotional self-discovery forms the center of the program. Under "Action Options," Diamond asks you, for example, to write down your memories of your sexual desires during adolescence and compare them to your midlife sexual ups and downs; talk to each of your children about the kind of fathering they have received from you; and write down "all the things you know about the Woman in you," and then share this with someone you trust.
Diamond, who also authored Male Menopause, frequently bares his own personal story and also includes anecdotes from his men's groups. This book is recommended for men (and the women who love them) ready for an intimate, man-to-man exploration of a man's physical, emotional, and relationship health at midlife. --Joan Price
From Library Journal
These two titles join the growing body of literature on men's health, but each approaches the subject from a very different perspective. Ehlers, a physician who specializes in adult and geriatric medicine, and freelance writer Miller focus on leading a fulfilling life by staying healthy; theirs is a traditional health reference stressing that "it's important to know when you need professional help and when you don't." While they emphasize ailments that men in their 50s may face, they provide a full home health reference in clear, up-to-date language with many convenient, informative tables. Overall, this is a good health guide for men that will answer common complaints and assist in determining whether to seek professional advice. Diamond (Male Menopause) offers an eight-week program to help men over 40 reclaim their passion, power, and purpose to live a fuller and more rewarding life. Essentially, he takes a New Age approach, with chapters on physical and emotional well-being; food; intimate and other partnerships; stress management, irritability, and anger; mind-altering substances; and spiritual life. Less scientifically rigorous and hence of limited value, The Whole Man Program is an optional purchase. Facing Your Fifties is recommended for consumer health collections. James Swanton, Harlem Hosp. The Whole Man Joke
Buy this book and feel like an [fool]! I was hopeing for a book that would address male issues for those over 40. What I got was one man's collection of "urban fables" with instructions based on his unique, singular experience. I struggled through chapters 1 and 2, but the real kiss of death was chapter 3 (Why men feel ashamed of themselves and therefore do not take any interest in health or longevity). I'm ashamed because I'm not a hunter? I'm ashamed because I got a circumcision and didn't get a chance to resist?! Give me a break! I was going to give the book to my local library, but I don't think I want to be guilty of promulgating this kind of [stuff]. You want to be healthy over 40 each less junk, exercise regularly, find meaning in your job to insure your efforts make a difference somehow, try and stay connected with friends or make new ones, stay connected with your partner and be supportive and allow to be supported. There you go, saved you [$] (not including shipping and handling).

BEWARE - Amazon allows bogus book reviews. In case you have not noticed, the first 5-star review is from the author himself, and the second is from an author they got to endorse the book cover. This brings the average review up close to a 5, regardless of the 1-star comment from an objective reader. Ridiculous!
The Whole Man Program
This book is not just for men. Women will also find it invaluable in understanding men, men's health, and how you can help the men in your life remain at their best into their 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, and beyond. The information is practical, but authoritative. It is easily readable and scientifically sound. The Whole Man Program begins where the author's books on Male Menopause leave off. It tells us what we can expect in the second half of life and what we can do to make those years the very best that they can be. The Whole Man Program delivers on what it promises. It covers "the whole man"--hormonally, physically, psychologically, emotionally, interpersonally, socially, sexually, economically, ecologically, and spiritually.
If you've ever wondered about testosterone, whether it is healthy or dangerous, this book will give you the answers.
If you suspected that men have something like PMS, called Male Irritability Syndrome (MIS), you'll learn what it is and what to do about it.
Buy this book for yourself, for those you love, and anyone who is a man over 40 or who ever expects to be a man over 40.
