Customer Reviews
Sit at the feet of the masters and learn from them.
As a life time student of the martial arts, including Shotokan Karate, I found this fantastic book a pure joy to read. The author is well-known for his numerous interviews with karate and martial art masters. In this book he focuses on the Shotokan karate masters. He dedicates this book to the memory of grandmaster Gichin Funakoshi. Many of the masters he interviews trained with Funakoshi. The fifteen masters interviewed in this book include: Masatoshi Nakayama, who was the chief instructor of the Japan Karate Association until his death. The late Hidetaka Nishiyama, who founded AAKF in the United States. Tsutomu Ohshima, who was one of the first to teach Shotokan Karate in the U.S. Other great masters interviewed in this text are Keinosuke Enoeda, Hirokzzu Kanazawa, Teruyuki Okazake, Takayuki Mikami, Tetsuhiko Asai, Yoshiharu Osaka, Osamu Ozawa, Taiji Kase, Shojiro Koyama, Masahiko Tanaka, Mikio Yahara and Koss Yokota. Reading this book is like sitting at the feet of Shotokan Karate Masters. In conclusion, this book should be read by all serious Shotokan Karate students. I give it my highest rating (five stars). Nice things come in small packages
A small, rare and definitive book featuring the Japanese masters of the most popular style of Karate in the world - Shotokan.
This outstanding compilation gathers the best Japanese Shotokan masters in one comprehensive volume; in their own words, they explain the philosophy, training and spirit of the art.
Legendary masters of the teachings of Grandmaster and founder Gichin Funakoshi, like Tsutomu Ohshima, Masatoshi Nakayama, Taiji Kase, Hidetaka Nishiyama, Teruyuki Okazaki, Takayuki Mikami, Hirokazu Kanazawa, Keinosuke Enoeda and others contemporaries, openly talk about their struggles and training in the art of the "empty hand."
Although a small book it is BIG in content!! This excellent book provides uniquely fascinating insights into the true lives and times of the masters (some past) of Shotokan Karate.
