The play is better (mostly because of the ending) but this is still a very good film. Accurate right down to the rotting teeth. Yech!

I always found this kind of over-rated but it's still a good miniseries. Geordi from Star Trek is a slave brought to America and it follows the life of his family through the generations.

A stunningly realistic portrait of one of the most human of the founding fathers. The attention to accuracy in this miniseries is amazing, and the plot is good too. Follows David McCullough's book.

I think that this movie was intended to be a dark, realistic take on the Revolutionary War but it just came off as a mess. America-bashing is right, and I don't usually have a problem with that, but instead of treating it in a realistic way like John Adams they make it an overblown in-your-face kind of thing. I've heard that the new DVD cut is better though so it might be worth the risk.

Another good miniseries. This one suffers rather more for a lack of budget than The Crossing does. A few good fights would have shown more why Arnold was such a hero before his betrayal. Aidan Quinn gives a very good performance as the conflicted patriot.

A rather disjointed film but a good one. They should really of ended at the Alamo instead of showing what happened after. It feels like two separate movies. Still, they're both good ones and Billy Bob Thornton is awesome as Davy Crockett.

A very long miniseries (or rather a series of miniseries) about the Civil War. A large production for a miniseries. Some of the battle scenes are as good as those in any movie. The makeup is about what you would expect for a 1980s movie. It's hard to buy Patrick Swayze aging 30 years throughout the series.

Not as good as Gettysburg, this film has many good moments. unfortunately it has too much space between them causing it to run on for far too long. They try too hard to make Stonewall Jackson a heroic good guy. He was not a particularly nice man except to women.

Daniel Day-Lewis owns this movie. His Bill the Butcher is terrifying and strangely sympathetic. The Draft Riots are the finale of the film but this movie lacks the feeling of building momentum that it should have. Well worth watching though.

There is a real irony in having such a brave war hero as Audie Murphy play the coward in this film. To his and the film's credit it works, raising this film to a higher level than expected. Too many '50s films were morally pure so it's nice to see one which actually raises moral questions.

A horror film set during the Civil War. A group of Bank Robbers lead by Elliot from E.T. hole up in a haunted mansion. Occasional good scares in an unusual location make this one worth seeing once.

The Odyssey set in the Civil War. The performances are good but something in this just didn't fit as well as it should. Still, a noble effort.

A very good miniseries about the Rough Riders. Tom Berenger IS Teddy Roosevelt. The Battle of San Juan Hill is superbly recreated. To the best of my knowledge this is the only movie to depict the Spanish-American War.
