A smart and savvy (albeit highly stylized) look at the single lives of four thirtysomething Manhattan women, Sex and the City: The Complete Second Season builds on the foundation of its first season with plot arcs that are both hilarious and heartfelt, taking the show from breakout hit to true pop-culture phenomenon. Relationship epiphanies coexist happily alongside farcical plots and zingy one-liners, resulting in emotionally satisfying episodes that feature the sharp kind of character-defining dialogue that seems to have disappeared from the rest of TV long ago. When last we left the NYC gals, Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) had just broken up with a commitment-phobic Mr. Big (Chris Noth), but fans of Noth's seductive-yet-distant rake didn't have to wait long until he was back in the picture, as he and Carrie tried to make another go of it. Their relationship evolution, from reunion to second breakup, provides the core of the second season. The fittingly titled and keenly observed episode "Evolution" found Carrie trying to leave a few feminine belongings at Mr. Big's apartment with little success, charting the challenges and limits of intimacy. And the season's finale, "Ex and the City," was a melancholy goodbye for Carrie and Big that took its cue from The Way We Were. It wasn't all angst, though: among other adventures, Charlotte (Kristin Davis) puzzles over whether one of her beaus was "gay-straight" or "straight-gay"; Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) tries to date a guy who insists on having sex only in places where they might get caught; and Samantha (the exquisite Kim Cattrall) copes with dates who range from, um, not big enough to far too big--with numerous stops in between. Through it all, the four actresses cohered into a solid ensemble that played on their complex relationships among themselves as well as with men; in two short years, Parker and company became one of the best TV casts in over a decade. Second Season is Better than the First
The first season of SEX AND THE CITY was wonderful, but the show really began to hit the right notes during the second season they were on the air. The characters become much deeper -- we get to see Carrie caught in the snare of Mr. Big trying desperately to make the impossible work, Samantha abandons her relationship with James and begins to recommit herself to never being committed, Charlotte tries anything and everything to get a man (even dates one she suspects might be gay), and the MOST impressive thing ... Miranda develops a soft, warm relationship with Steve the bartender. But just when you think our four favorite single gals might have it all figured out...the season finale throws everyone of them a curve ball! This is some of the best wrtiting ever for a sit-com, and some of the most wonderful characters on television. Gone is Candace Bushnell's blue print of the book (except for the 20-something episode), so season two develops more of a story with each episode building on the next. And some of the funniest scenes ever ... like Samantha's three way with a gay couple, Charlotte's class on tantric sex, and Carrie having to break up with a guy's mother (played by Valerie Harper). Or when Carrie gets slammed by New York magazine for being SINGLE AND FABULOUS? You will want this collection! They get better and better even watching them a couple of times. And I dare you to watch just one at a time!

Sex is great!
The women are back in the second season of Sex and the City! This show just keeps on getting better and better, as Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha's characters' are given more depth. And there are more episodes on this season than there were on the first for us to get our SATC fix.

Episode 4: THEY SHOOT SINGLE PEOPLE, DON'T THEY? :Carrie goes to a shoot about women who are single and fabulous; Miranda gets back together with a guy who she fakes it in bed with; Charlotte can't fake intimacy.

At long last...
I didn't think that anything could top season #1. But hold on to your Cosmopolitans; Season #2 is even better.

For those of you not familiar with Sex and the City, the premise is this: 4 attractive single women friends experience life, love and -- yes -- sex in Manhattan. The men who pass though their lives will seem strangely familiar to many of you (us!) unmarried gals watching: the lovable gay pal, the sexy personal trainer, the fellow who's just a tad too attached to his [dirty movies] and -- of course -- the maddeningly attractive but emotionally remote Mr. Big.

With all the nutty escapades that Charlotte, Samantha, Miranda and Carrie experience, their enduring friendship remains the one constant throughout every episode. They guffaw, cry, commiserate and analyse their way through each major (and minor) ordeal... TOGETHER.
