"Well, at least the cover's hot..."
For Christina Lindberg completists, this DVD will certainly fill
a void. Remember, of course, that it's a Swedish coming of age movie,
so the pace is pretentiously deadly. But, hey, if you've seen Miss
Christina's other films of this period, you already know what to
expect. No, the real beef I have here is with the transfer. It's
full frame, washed out, and a little dark. You know you're in
trouble when the theatrical trailer (included on this disc) looks
80% better than the actual feature presentation. However, there is
a major coup here with the 2008 video interview with the usually
low-profile and reclusive Miss Lindberg. She still looks like her-
self albeit 40 years older than one remembers. Sadly, the interviewer
doesn't really know how to coax reminiscences out of her, so she really
doesn't have a whole lot to say about her body of work. She put me in mind of that other famous Swedish actress from Hollywood's Golden Age
who just 'vants to be alone'. Surprisingly, she does admit that she was only in the movie business for 2-3 years, during which she made over 25 films. Anyway, that should hold you if, like I say, you're a Lindberg
completist. If not, I would suggest a film like 'Anita' as a more
typical introduction to Christina's world.
Swedish men can't dance
16 year old Inga goes to visit her sister, Greta, in the big city and promptly finds out the "mystery of life" thanks to a sculptor. Greta's live-in boyfriend has some ideas himslf, but with Greta around, what can he do? You'll have to watch the movie to find out.
