With full HD spec 1080p resolution, dramatically enhanced black level, and an elegant new design, the LC65D93U produces breathtaking picture quality second to none. This AQUOS set utilizes the next generation of Sharp's proprietary Advanced Super View/Black TFT Panel with Multi-Pixel Technology, providing a native 3,000:1 contrast ratio and a dynamic contrast ratio of 15,000:1 with Enhanced Picture Contrast Technology. If you want to compare, keep in mind that many other manufacturers list only the dynamic contrast ratio on their televisions. You'll find that most will have a dynamic contrast ratio significantly lower than the LC65D93U. This AQUOS delivers a very fast 4 ms response time, wide viewing angles (176-degree, horizontal and vertical), and the LC65D93U comes with a table stand that is easily removed for wall mounting applications. What's Your Angle?
Great style and performance don't just happen. It takes a commitment to quality, an incredibly talented team of professionals, and a vision for innovation. Sharp, a global leader in liquid crystal televisions year after year, continually raises the bar for outstanding quality and high performance. Take the LC65D93U's Multi-Pixel Technology, for example. By dividing each pixel into two sections and developing an advanced driving system, Sharp's new Multi-Pixel Technology delivers more natural and accurate color reproduction when viewing the screen from virtually any angle. This technology improves extreme-angle viewing by about 60 percent. This Is Sharp's 8th Generation LCD Panel
The purest whites. The deepest blacks. The most vivid range of color. That's what comes with Sharp's innovative Advanced Super View/Black TFT LCD panel technology. The panel uses an enhanced color filter that allows greater light transmission--providing a greater native contrast ratio of up to 3,000:1. Sharp's proprietary FineMotion Advanced technology combines double-frame data interpolation and 120 Hz frame rate conversion, double the traditional 60 Hz driving speed, for even finer video performance. With the FineMotion Advanced mode, pixel response time is an industry-best 4 ms, ensuring smooth, flowing motion in fast-action scenes. And Sharp's exclusive 5-Wavelength Backlight System provides deeper, more vibrant reds and truer greens than previously possible. You Can Connect Just About Anything--Except Maybe A Lite-Brite
With an eye on the technological horizon, Sharp included the most advanced connections available with the LC65D93U. HDMI is the industry standard for high-definition programming, bringing all-digital video and audio signals into your TV in one cable, and doing it without any form of compression or attendant loss of quality. The LC65D93U has three 1080p-compatible HDMI connections. And, because not all homes have warp-sped into the Jetson era, two HD component video inputs (also 1080p-compatible) allow your legacy components to continue their service without pause or problem (there are also S-Video and composite inputs for older equipment). There's even a DVI-I connector that accepts a 1080p feed directly from a PC, and the built-in RS-232C terminal enables integration with whole-house control systems, making this new model perfect for the high-end custom installation market.Sharp's Clean And Green
The Sharp Liquid Crystal Television plant in Kameyama, Japan, represents the ultimate example of economic efficiency, social mindedness, and environmental conservation. Combining Sharp's vast experience and knowledge in R & D and mass production, including 50 years of TV and 30 years of LCD production, the Sharp Kameyama plant is a world-class facility for the manufacture and assembly of LCD panels. Continuing its leadership, Sharp is opened a second plant at Kamayama in October, 2006. This will be the world's first facility to adopt 8th generation glass substrates, which are roughly twice as large as the substrates used in the number one plant. Plant number two is specially designed for the production of glass for LCD panel sizes in the 40" to 50" range and will provide a steady supply of medium to large panels to respond to the growing worldwide demand for digital and high definition compatible flat panel televisions. The Kameyama plant is designated a Super Green Factory. A cogeneration system and a photovoltaic power generation system supply the plant with approximately one-third of its energy needs. Combined with a waste-heat recovery system that transforms waste heat into air conditioning, Sharp reduces CO2 emissions by 40% a year. In addition, the plant collects all the watewater from the production process and recycles it using water purification technology. Via its Super Green Strategy, by the year 2010, Sharp plans to completely offset its production of greenhouse gas emissions by way of energy savings from new energy-efficient products and energy creation through the proliferation of Sharp solar cells.Customer Reviews
outstanding TV, well worth the investment
First let's get the one big negative out of the way: If you use HMDI inputs, the tv will NOT output sound from the optical digital out, period. This means I have to buy a new receiver with more inputs so I can route all my components directly to my home theater speakers, rather than just using the tv's inputs, a major inconvenience. The Samsung 63" plasma I tried has a similar issue, so do your homework (I returned that for other reasons). The tv's own speakers are mediocre at best.
That said, the picture quality is amazing. The biggest thing to keep in mind is that the source makes or breaks the image you get. SD programming depends on the channel and quality of the original image. Shows that were originally recorded in SD are going to be a bit grainy no matter which HDTV you buy. I have seen baseball, football and basketball on HD channels and the picture is clear and crisp, with no issues of pixelization when images move fast. On the other hand, watching wrestling does have that problem on certain channels. Again, the source determines the quality. Just remember, not everything on HD channels was FILMED in HD. In fact except for sports most programs on cable HD were filmed in SD and are being upconverted, which will never give the same quality (there is some silk screen effect and slight pixelization with fast movement but nothing bad). My upconverting DVD player makes my regular dvd's look just as good as they did on my Sony 35" CRT display. PS3 games are so clear and bright it's like I upgraded to a PS4, my jaw just dropped. But far and away the most stunning visuals came from watching Planet Earth on Blu-Ray. I didn't know such image quality could exist. I also watched Resident Evil Apocalypse on Blu-Ray, and everything was perfect: no grit, no blockiness during fast scenes or explosions. You can have sidebars when the source is 4:3 format, or you can have it stretch the image to fill the screen. While the feature is standard this model does it without the images LOOKING stretched. No fat heads or other such problems, everything just looks natural. There are no banding issues, with brightness always looking even. I've had the tv for over 2 weeks and don't have one bad thing to say about it. I was paranoid about having buyer's remorse when choosing a set this expensive and even with a very critical eye I can't find any problems. I got it from Amazon directly for $4K (must have been their last one because they don't offer it now) so I can only say Amazon was great as always and I know by experience they have the best customer service, bar none. When I returned the defective Samsung 63" Plasma I bought early this year they went out of their way to accomodate me, so buy with absolute confidence. Just know that other vendors who sell here have their own return policies and Amazon can't help you if you go that route. Sorry to write a short novel but I want to give as much info as possible. I will check the comments section for a while if you have any questions and answer ASAP.
Good LCD TV, but not the best picture
Two days into receiving, and playing, with this TV, this is my opinion.
There are few LCD 65-inch HDTVs around, so there is not much competition against this model. So, after seeing the competition and this TV on Best Buy, I believe this one has the best picture, for a LCD 65 inch with 120 Hz refresh rate.
Now, the picture quality is DEFINITELY not better than the Samsungs LCDs with 120Hz. The problem is that Samsung has not produced a 65-inch TV, yet.
Therefore, if you need/want a 65 inches TV right now, this is a good choice. It should not cost more than four thousand bucks, though. If you can wait, I would recommend waiting for the day Samsung builts 65-inch LCDs. They should be spectacular!!!
Enjoy
best pick
I've owned this tv for over a month now and love it. Picture is excellent. I have it paired to an Onkyo tx-sr875 receiver which upconverts all signals to 1080p. Without it 480 programs were a little grainy due to size of tv but now taken care of.
