Customer Reviews
Beautiful crib, you get what you pay for !
I didn't order the crib from Babiesrus.com because of all the bad reviews about how long it takes to receive the crib and all the shipping problems. I found another vendor that offered the crib for a bit more, but the shipping was included, so the total cost for the crib was less. I ordered the crib on 10/28/05, it arrived 11/3/05. The box was in good condition and when I took it apart there were no damaged pieces.
It took my mother and I (I am 5 months pregnant now) about two hours to put the crib together. It was not too complicated and all the pieces were there.
Upside:
* The crib looks really great. The dark wood looks good with any bedding choice.
* It is very sturdy and functional.
* From the reviews on consumer reports it appears to be very safe
* Very easy to adjust the mattress panel to accommodate the baby's age, and also very easy to convert to a toddler bed.
* The storage drawer underneath is a great function and adds to the beauty of the crib.
* The dropdown side is easy to put up and down and will make it easy to access the baby.
Downside
* The finish on the crib could be better. The surfaces are rough feeling, not enough to hurt the baby but still I feel like I they could have sanded and polished it better. There were a few nicks and dents, but nothing really visible once the crib was assembled. One of the side panels had a large black mark across it, but we put that side against the wall so again it is not visible.
* Directions could have been a little easier. We had to go back a few times and redo the assembly. The pictures were also pretty small, so if you have bad vision it could be a problem.
Overall I am satisfied with the crib. I would say there are better finished products out there for a few hundred dollars more, but nothing that looks as good as this one. Basically the price is great and you get a really beautiful looking crib, with a few very minor issues.
Incorrect parts supplied
We purchased this crib online in July. After my baby shower, my husband tried to assemble the crib. Instead of 2 left hand and 2 right hand corner posts, there were 3 right hand posts and 1 left hand post. The crib is impossible to assemble. It is a shame as it is very pretty. Also, when I tried to call the phone number on the box, the number was consistently busy and we were unable to reach anyone at the Storkcraft company. As our baby is due in 2 weeks, I guess we will have to go to the store and purchase an alternative. We are very disappointed.
DO NOT BUY!!!
We purchased this crib in December because it is so beautiful and the drawer was an extra-added bonus. When we opened the boxes, the wood was split down the middle of the headboard and the legs, and there were scratches and cracks everywhere. We had it shipped back and they sent us another one. There were very minor little flaws on the wood, that I was able to look past because I loved the crib so much. My husband put it together and the drawer would not work because the tracks were not close enough together, I decided to look past that as well because again I loved the look. Yesterday I was in the nursery looking at everything like I do everyday, anxiously awaiting our little guy to get here in April or May, and noticed that now the headboard has a 6 inch hair line crack splitting right down the middle! The baby isn't even here yet, and we haven't even had anything in the crib besides the bedding on it! Nobody even goes in that room! We're in the process of getting a refund and buying a new crib. There is a "Madison" crib at Babies R Us that looks similar and doesn't seem to fall apart from the reviews that I've read. It's too bad that Storkcraft can make such a beautiful crib, but such low quality!! Thank goodness we have a bassinet for the time being.
