![]() | One Magic Christmas
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $9.97 Simply the best Christmas movie ever made. Dark, and not for small children, but an amazing movie. The Granger family is put through the ringer during the holiday season, but in the end Ginny Granger finds her missing Christmas spirit, with the help of her husband, her children, an angel, and another special visitor.

![]() | A Christmas Carol (Ultimate Collector's Edition)(B/W & Color)
Buy new: $11.99 / Used from: $13.08 The Alastair Sim version is the definitive one. Not much to say here, as everyone knows the story of miserly Mr. Scrooge and his Christmas Eve epiphany. This is the film I watch with my family each Christmas eve, after church. A true classic.

![]() | National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (Special Edition)
Buy new: $11.49 / Used from: $8.41 The best movie Chevy Chase ever did, and yes, I'm including Caddyshack in that assessment. Watch the Griswold family as they struggle through the holiday season, led by bumbling breadwinner Clark. The most quotable Christmas movie of all time, this one is note-perfect.

![]() | Home for the Holidays
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $5.73 Although technically a Thanksgiving movie, I always begin my holiday movie-watching by screening this wonderful film starrring Holly Hunter and Robert Downey, Jr. The travails of a grown-up family returning home for the festive season has never been presented with so many laughs and so many poignant moments. An excellent movie all around.

![]() | Miracle on 34th Street (Special Edition)
Buy new: $12.49 / Used from: $5.21 The original an by far the best Miracle On 34th Street is the original version. Watch as "Kris Kringle" brings a family together, stops a war between rival department stores Macy's and Gimball's, teaches a little girl the meaning of imagination, and warms the hearts of all around him. A true classic.

![]() | A Christmas Carol
Buy new: $14.98 / Used from: $5.99 The George C. Scott version is the second-best adaptation of the Dickens tale. In places it's actually better than the Sim version, but overall falls just short. Still, this version of A Christmas Carol is an excellent movie.

![]() | Santa Claus - The Movie (20th Anniversary Edition)
Buy used from: $6.18 The first half of the movie is an imaginative, fun imagining of the origin of Santa Claus (although religion has been totally omitted). The second half is a modern-day tale of a rogue elf (Dudley Moore) and an evil toymaker (John Lithgow), as they attempt to "take over Christmas". Lots of fun and the special effects are not CGI but old-fashioned models and green-screen work (which is refreshing).

![]() | Greatest Heroes and Legends of the Bible: The Nativity
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $3.34 This animated story of Jesus' birth is perfect for small children. Jesus is, of course, "the reason for the season", and my kids never tire of watching the nativity as presented here. Much better than the live-action 2007 movie, which seemed a bit...off. This is the best adaptation I've found of the birth of the King of Kings.

![]() | A Muppet Family Christmas
Buy used from: $29.90 After the atrocious last few Muppet productions, this classic is a breath of fresh air. Remember when the Muppets were fresh and entertaining? Remember when Jim Henson was still with us? Bring back those wonderful times with this lively Christmas tale. Packed with carols and fun.
|
![]() | Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (Deluxe Edition)
Buy used from: $8.79 The original, animated Grinch is a true Christmas classic. The Jim Carrey film is...a good Jim Carrey film. Karloff's narration and the wonderfully simple animation bring the Dr. Seuss classic to life.
