The Very Best Kid's Movies
By an Amazon.com customer
Toy Story (10th Anniversary Edition)Toy Story (10th Anniversary Edition)
Buy used from: $14.99
My absolute favorite animated film, and close to my favorite movie of all time. The very first computer animated film, and it delivers!
The Muppet Christmas Carol - Kermit's 50th Anniversary EditionThe Muppet Christmas Carol - Kermit's 50th Anniversary Edition
Buy new: $10.49 / Used from: $10.00
Simply fantastic. My favorite Christmas movie of all time, though I was never a huge fan of the Muppets and didnt know much about them. Stays fairly true to the book and the songs are just wonderful. A real masterpiece. You MUST own this movie! I watch it every Christmas Eve and it never fails to hit me right in my soft spot.
Aladdin (Disney Special Platinum Edition)Aladdin (Disney Special Platinum Edition)
Buy used from: $14.99
I love Aladdin. The genie is awesome. Enough said.
Babe (Widescreen Special Edition)Babe (Widescreen Special Edition)
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $7.94
Every child of the 90s remembers this movie, and every kid should get to see it, even 15 or so years later. It's funny, affecting, and adorable. Easily the best talking-animals movie, and the only one I can actually think of that was really good at all.
The Lion King (Disney Special Platinum Edition)The Lion King (Disney Special Platinum Edition)
Buy used from: $19.99
Obviously a great movie. Everyone knows this. Johnathan Taylor Thomas did a wonderful job as Simba, and when Mufasa dies, I will still cry after my 823498th viewing.
Monsters, Inc. (Two-Disc Collector's Edition)Monsters, Inc. (Two-Disc Collector's Edition)
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $7.99
An amazing movie up until the very end! It's a shame it and Shrek were made in the same year, this hands down deserves an Oscar.
Mulan (Special Edition)Mulan (Special Edition)
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $8.47
One of my Disney favorites. Sort of marks the end of Disney's golden age, in about 1998. They are still making Pixar films, but how many straight Disney films do you remember that came out after Mulan? I cant think of any good ones. This movie is funny, has awesome, recognizable tunes, and follows a unique style and story.
Hercules (Disney Gold Classic Collection)Hercules (Disney Gold Classic Collection)
Buy new: $10.49 / Used from: $7.99
Told with the use of gospel music, a very unique thing in an animated movie, this is a great classic story. I am partial to Greek legend, and though its not totally true to the story, its songs really are phenomenal.
Finding Nemo (Two-Disc Collector's Edition)Finding Nemo (Two-Disc Collector's Edition)
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $7.05
Easily one of Pixar's best. A great story that has every kid that sees a clownfish in a pet store going, "It's Nemo!" Adorable.
The Hunchback of Notre DameThe Hunchback of Notre Dame
Buy new: $16.49 / Used from: $9.08
The saddest Disney movie, in my opinion, but it is very heartfelt and teaches compassion. The opening song, I think, is probably the best song Disney writers have ever put in a movie.
Toy Story 2 (Two-Disc Special Edition)Toy Story 2 (Two-Disc Special Edition)
Buy used from: $14.96
Almost as good as the original. But still awesome, and again, hilarious.
The Little Mermaid (Two-Disc Platinum Edition)The Little Mermaid (Two-Disc Platinum Edition)
Buy used from: $13.96
Probably the ultimate classic. The best combination of songs in a movie, since there are no bad tunes, and it's a great storyline with dynamic characters. Goes by so fast you wish it wasnt over!
Shrek (Full Screen Single Disc Edition)Shrek (Full Screen Single Disc Edition)
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $2.71
Shrek is one of the most original animated movies to come out in a long time. Great movie, with jokes for kids and definitely a bunch for adults, too.
The Lion King 2 - Simba's Pride (2-Disc Special Edition)The Lion King 2 - Simba's Pride (2-Disc Special Edition)
Buy used from: $14.99
This movie gets a lot of crap, but I think it's just as cute and good as the original. Again, tells a unique story (or a continuation of The Lion King's unique story), and the central forbidden love story is well done. Also good songs, like in the original.
Beauty and the Beast (Special Platinum Edition)Beauty and the Beast (Special Platinum Edition)
Buy used from: $14.99
The only animated movie to be nominated for a best picture academy award, it teaches great lessons, has great songs, and has a really cute story.
Shrek 2 (Widescreen Edition)Shrek 2 (Widescreen Edition)
Buy new: $17.49 / Used from: $1.66
Again, a hilarious movie for young and old. On par with the original, and sometimes I actually like it more.
The Emperor's New Groove - The New Groove EditionThe Emperor's New Groove - The New Groove Edition
Buy new: $22.49 / Used from: $12.31
Definitely a different spin on the fairy tale, but the voices of John Goodman and David Spade, plus the opening sequence with David Spade's voiceover, when Kuzko (sp?) is in the rain, just puts the icing on the cake for me in this one.
The Land Before Time (Anniversary Edition)The Land Before Time (Anniversary Edition)
Buy new: $11.49 / Used from: $8.29
An adorable, short little movie with drama and comedy, the story just gets you right in the heart and the ending is a treasure. Should be remembered for years to come.
The Swan Princess (Special Edition)The Swan Princess (Special Edition)
Buy used from: $4.34
Not a very well known movie, partly because it's not Disney and was released in the late 80s, I believe, but it has great songs, drama, and funny jokes. Also a heartfelt tale.
Peter Pan (Widescreen Edition)Peter Pan (Widescreen Edition)
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $2.10
This is the live action Peter Pan film that was made a few years ago. Not sure if this is really a film FOR children, but it's great nonetheless. The cinematography and art direction is beautiful, and I believe it's much better than the animated version. Jeremy Sumpter was a PERFECT choice for the title role. Amazed me the first time I saw it.
RatatouilleRatatouille
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $7.78
Didnt like it the first time I saw it, but the story of cooking brought me back to it, as I love to cook myself. A very inspired story that fits with the times, in a very visually interesting setting. I really like Patton Oswalt as Remy.
Happy Feet (Full Screen Edition)Happy Feet (Full Screen Edition)
Buy new: $12.99 / Used from: $1.87
I squeal at the baby Mumble every time. So adorable the whole movie is worth watching. Also, when Robin Williams' penguin crew comes in, it gets hilarious. Makes me laugh every time.
Wall-E (Single-Disc Edition)Wall-E (Single-Disc Edition)
Buy new: $15.49 / Used from: $4.57
Reaches beyond the boundaries of filmmaking up to this point. The scene where Wall-E first gets to space and runs his hand through the stars? Astounding. More beautiful, probably, than the real thing.
Kung Fu Panda (Widescreen Edition)Kung Fu Panda (Widescreen Edition)
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $3.20
The newest addition to my favorites list. Kind of a weird, out there story line, but Jack Black adds a lot to it as the title character. Also beautiful animation of the cities and the foliage there (I'm thinking of the gorgeous cherry blossom trees).
