A sharp, solid watch
[WARNING: I had seen warnings of Skagen watch faces cracking for no apparent reason in relation to their other watches. I had hoped it wouldn't be a factor with this watch, but with no warning and no obvious reason, the face cracked after 6 months. That'll cost me $40 all-told IF I decide to get it fixed!]
I was looking for a watch that would be nice enough to wear on the job and on the town, and yet practical enough to wear while working out. This Skagen fits the bill. The watch is sharp, but not overly flashy (I purchased the one with the black dial). Not readily obvious in the picture, the crystal and bezel are slightly domed and fit smoothly into one another. Also, those are holes in the parts of the bezel that jut out over the strap, and they definitely add interest to the watch's design. It is not as large a watch as I thought it would be, but not at all too small for my tastes, and it has quite a bit more thickness to it than the thin Skagens.
This watch is one of 3 designs that Skagen made specially for the CSC pro cycling team. It is the most conservative of the 3, the other 2 being chronographs and more clearly sports-oriented. [FYI, one of the other CSC watch designs is endorsed by rider Ivan Basso, and unfortunately for Skagen, right after the watch's release, Mr. Basso was implicated in a large blood-doping ring which kept him out of the 2006 Tour de France.] I like most Skagen watches, but, because this one is part of Skagen's first-ever "special collection," I think it stands out due to extra care being put into its design and workmanship (which reasonably accounts for its higher price). A warning however: Look around on the web before snapping this watch up at the MSRP, which is currently over $100 above the lowest sites I've found.
The features that stand out for me are: 1. A dial and hands that are really bold and easy to read (the longer I have this watch, the more I appreciate this practical aspect). 2. A well-made, water-resistant leather strap which is integrated right into the watch case [stylish, but the downside being that the strap can only be replaced by Skagen]. 3. A 10 ATM water resistance with a screw-down back and a sturdy screw-down crown. 4. A solid titanium case and clasp (with a "brushed" surface). 5. The fact that it's Swiss Made (unlike other Skagens) and accurate (mine's about 6 seconds fast a month, or just :36 every 6 months). And 6. its bold, solid design.
Skagen team csc titanium
Beautiful watch, very light and comfortable.Titanium is a must if you are allergic to metal. My only negative point is that the scratches are more visible on a black watch.Recommended.
