Despite, or perhaps in ironic conjunction with, Mayor Giuliani's efforts to make New York City clean and pristine, graffiti has become a respected staple of the gallery scene. Barry "Twist" McGee's tags and caricatures are no exception, nor were they when displayed at the Venice Biennale this past summer. With more than 15 years of street cred, the California tagger's lively, humorous, and often bulbous depictions of street characters don't so much bring the street into the gallery as bring the gallery out into the street. Compelling art to me is a name carved into a tree. Sometimes a rock soaring through a plate of glass can be the most beautiful, compelling work of art I have ever seen. --Barry McGee

GREAT OLD WORK by MCGEE!
what amazing book this is. some pages are beautiful color images and some are B/W. this book has about 30 blank pages that most of people complain about, but come on you just don't get the meaning of it.
beginning of few pages show that graffiti has been buffed over, then blank white pages came up. what i felt was it's represent a battle between taggers and society.... after the white walls (pages) there is a huge red mural with McGee's awesome painting rises up. I truly believe that this whole blank pages stands for SMASH THE STATE as McGee's strong message. better have the book for all his fans. contains great old work which he doesn't do anymore. bunch of pics of very aggressive and strong work. totally love this book.
Art Should Be In Color
I just don't understand why art books are published that have so little color reproductions in them...that's what art books are for. To show the art. If it's not even in color what good is it? There's about 20 pages in color, but come one, this book has way more than 20 pages in it.
hi.
i don't understand why this book has about 30 empty pages in it.
is this suppose to be like this ? if not i think mine has some printing erros . --------------------------
