Warning: Factory-reconditioned product
As of July 11, 2009, the product description for this miter saw still does not mention the fact that this is a factory-reconditioned product. I bought it in June 2009, and when I found out it was not new, contacted the vendor who apologized for the misleading description, said they would correct the description, and immediately sent a prepaid Fedex return label so I could return the product. They also promptly credited my credit card. So I was very happy with that aspect of their customer service. However, here it is 5 weeks later and the listing is still misleading. Per the vendor, the "RT" indicates factory-reconditioned, and I guess they think that's sufficient disclosure to the customer, as though everyone should know what that means. Looking around Amazon, I see a lot of other "RT" products with no other mention of factory-reconditioning in their description. So be warned. Now you DO know what that means!
I feel bad giving the saw a single star when the reasons for my rating have nothing to do with the quality of the Skil product. I ended up buying a slighter better Skil miter saw with a laser guide on sale from a big-box retailer at a great price. For the price, it's very good quality.
11/26/2009 update: The feedback about reviewing the vendor rather than the product is fair. However, since I returned this product before opening it and bought a different model, I have nothing to say about the product itself; just my experience with this vendor. I upped my rating to a neutral 3 stars to be fair to Skil. For what it's worth, you can buy this same model, brand-new, from a big-box store for considerably less than the current price of this used one.
One final comment: if I had to make this purchase over again, I'd go with this bare-bones model rather than the laser-equipped model I got. The laser was impossible to align exactly right, and broke completely after a month when a scrap of wood flew backwards and smacked it. So the laser wasn't worth the extra money.
