Govinda - Sound Sutras5
This is one CD that I can put on at work and blistfully work away to. I am into Chill, Lounge and Electronica music and this CD fits the bill. But it - you won't be sorry.

Uninspired, not up to Govinda par3
I have to agree with the lone critical reviewer here who bemoaned this album as being generic, uninspired, etc. After Govinda's first couple of albums, I was very much looking forward to this release, and another 45 minutes or so of Govinda's unique take on the extremely crowded (and thus often 'uninspired') 'chill-out' genre(s).

Look, this album is fine for having on in the background as a soundtrack to mundane tasks. But it just feels like any of the 56,987 'lounge'-type albums, each with a picture of some beautiful girl at a hot locale on the cover. See! This is how this album will make you feel! See! This is why they all sound the same.

Ugh.

"World's Within" and, "Erotic Rhythms from Earth" are, in my opinion, transcendent of the genre. This one is not. Still, not a horrible album for background listening, which is why I give it the same 3 stars that other guy did. For basically the same reasons.

Govinda ~ Sound Sutras3

For me, my entry point into Govinda's world of sensual trance/groove/lounge/electronica was their 2004 release, "Worlds Within." What really caught me were the Indian motifs they put into their music.

Then we waited three years, THREE YEARS until another release. And what we got was this - Sound Sutras.

A "Sutra" is a Hinduistic concept, something not just Indian. But that begs the question - where ARE the Hindi, Indian, or ethnic chants at all on this album? All we got are a load of English lyrics.

Govinda didn't include anything in this album that is signature of them - it's generic groove/lounge. Which, if you're okay with, more power to you, but if you've listened to plenty of groove/lounge albums like I have, you want something more novel, original, and exciting.

Traditional fans of Govinda might be disappointed, but folks who just like lounge in general may find this a welcome addition to their collection - hence why I give it THREE stars.

Not really all that great, not really all that bad, either.
