Product Description

28 Days of Poetry Celebrating Black History Volume 2 is a profound collection of some of the most commemorative poetry you'll find on Black History. This author, for the second time, gives us 28 more days of poetry celebrating the history of Africans in America. This book will give you poetic glimpses of the lives of late, great figures in history like Sojourner Truth and George Washington Carver as well as recount the struggles of slavery and the Jim Crow era. This is a dynamic collection for students and families. Readers will learn as well as enjoy the sounds of poetry resonating from the lines of Faison's poetry. This is a Black History lesson at best, something for readers and historians of all ages.

Past Understood Easier in Verse4
Latorial Faison has done it again in 28 Days of Poetry Celebrating Black History, Volume 2. She gives us more lessons of our yester years in verse. I had heard of The Willie Lynch letter, but did I know what it was about? Not until I read "The Willie Lynch Plan." I enjoyed learning more about Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth, George Washington Carver, and other elements that affect our lives today, even though, some go way back in time.

Ms. Faison is truly a teacher, not only in profession, but also in her spirit. She always keeps it simple so not only adults can benefit and gain new knowledge, but also children. A piece that got me thinking was "What If?" because like a child we all have questions bubbling inside, but unlike a child will not ask them innocently. If we were to sit and put the shoes on the other foot and ask "What if blacks were white and whites really were red? Would Africans have stolen America instead?" Think about it.

Last year I read volume one of 28 Days of Poetry Celebrating Black History, and enjoyed it. Though the two books of poetry share the same name, the information is not the same. Yes, Ms. Faison gives a history lesson and encouraging words on topics we need to be more active in, but in the end it is a book of great poetry. I recommend 28 Days of Poetry Celebrating Black History, Volume 2 to teachers, parents and children.
