Amazon.com Product Description
This high-grade surround receiver from Sony's topnotch ES line offers everything discerning audiophiles need for quality home theater, including Dolby Digital and DTS surround decoding; 32-bit digital signal processing with 29 Sony-developed surround effects; and discrete output transistors for high-speed, high-current capacity and low distortion. Great build and sound quality are the order of the day with the STR-DA333ES.
Sony pays fastidious attention to detail throughout the receiver's design and construction. The STR-DA333ES uses separate digital processors for 24-bit multichannel surround decoding and employs Sony's proprietary 32-bit Digital Cinema Sound modes, which are designed to re-create the listening conditions in actual film-production suites.
The STR-DA333ES's amplifiers crank out 80 watts for each of its five main surround channels, while audiophile-grade parts--including heavy-duty capacitors, heat sinks, and power supply--couple with an antiresonant chassis design to maintain quality throughout the audio signal path.
The receiver is well stocked with audio-video inputs and outputs, including five S-video inputs and four analog audio inputs (including a phono input for your turntable), as well as five digital inputs and a Toslink optical digital output. The included multibrand two-way LCD remote (preprogrammed to operate many brands of audio-video equipment) simplifies operation immeasurably, showing not only current system configuration, but also station names and CD titles.

STR-DA333ES - Great system for the price!
The STR-DA333ES is the entry model in the Sony ES Receivers line. The system offers 70x5 Watt power in 5.1 Surround mode, and 80x2 Watt power in Stereo mode. While not the most power available, the price is quite attractive when considering the level of quality and craftsmanship put into this device. With a 32-Bit Digital Signal Processor and a 24-Bit Digital-to-Analog converter, the system has all the requirements of a fine home entertainment system.
The 1999 model comes with a 2-Way Infrared remote which is capable of learning macros for complex Home Audio systems. There are 4 digital inputs for various pieces of equipments, such as a MiniDisc, DVD, DAT or DSS system. There are 27 Sound Fields capable of reproducing sound from some of the great music halls of the Country. The speaker setup and surround effects are easily configurable from the on-screen menu.
Overall, this system is more than adequate for a beginner or moderate Home Theater buff. With more capacity than your typical user will need, this system will provide you with many options and possibilities for your Home Theater.
Receiver has good sound quality for video and music playback
This product offers good sound quality and upgrade possibilities(preouts/5.1 channel inputs). There are enough digital inputs and the internal management of speaker placement adds a nice touch. Some ambiance enhancements add too much reverberation, however they can be user adjusted. The 80 watts fills a pretty nice size room, (even with second floor valted ceilings). Overall good remote w/learning mode.
What a receiver!
Purchased at my local audio/video retailer, this receiver puts on quite a show!! Whether you're a new-comer or an avid audio-phile, this receiver was built to impress. Once you are able to navigate through the controls of its unique infra-red remote, you'll enjoy all its sound fields and high output. Listening to a movie or music will make you wonder why you would have considered buying anything less!!
