Looking for a turntable for those times you're feeling nostalgic about your favorite records? This small turntable is great if you already have a stereo but not a lot of room for another component. Two things make the PS-J11 the smart choice for the modern stereo system. It's only 11 inches wide, so you can stash it just about anywhere. 11-inch "Mini" component width matches Sony MHC Series mini hi-fi component systems. And if your stereo is cutting edge - it doesn't even bother with that antiquated phono input slot - the PS-J11 comes with its own built-in preamp. Aside from the size, the PS-J11 is low-tech - no messing with extra tonearms or worrying about torque and flutter. Just plug it in, plop on a record and there you have it. It's just the thing for casual listeners who aren't ready to jump the vinyl-only fence, but do like having the option.

Small, cheap, simple...
The Sony PS-J11 is a cheap, easy way to get back into vinyl. I don't think Sony sells it anymore though. It's made of VERY cheap plastic and an inexpensive tonearm, so expect plenty of rumble, clicks, pops and other noises. However, strong points include a surprisingly good built in preamp (best 'integrated' I've ever heard), very stable motor, adjustable 33 and 45RPM speeds (via screws on the bottom) and replaceable belt. Also, the unit is VERY small, the platter is the size of a 45. This has more disadvantages than advantages (warped records nearly impossible to play), but if you're looking for something to dub those old records to digital, you could do worse than the PS-J11 (I wouldn't recommend it for use with speakers because it's so light that it'll practically blow away if you turn up the volume).
By the way, the replacement stylus (needle) for this model is the Fisher/Sanyo ST-09D, easily available from [URL] and other online sources.
For the casual listener
THe PS-J11 turntable by Sony is a wonderful turntable. I found mine in my closet about a year ago and in virtually pristine condition. I began collecting more and more 45s and the PS-J11 is great in that it has compatability for LPs as well - so you're not limited to just 45s. I later learned that my sister had bought the turntable in 1995 and I was amazed because it lasted for more than 10 years, collecting dust in a closet, and it still plays records as well as it was when my sister had bought it. I highly recommend this turntable if you are looking to listen to your old LPs and 45s and a really reasonable price.
