From the Manufacturer
HTS 400 features color-coded outlets and cord labels, so you won't accidentally unplug the wrong component like a VCR, for example, and are forced to reset the blinking clock. A generous eight-foot power cord allows easy reach to your electrical outlets. 24k gold contacts provide maximum power transfer and corrosion resistance. Monster's FlatProfile plug lets you push your furniture flush against the wall. Multiple SurgeGuard protects components from harmful surges and spikes. Harmful power surges and voltage spikes can travel up the AC power line and damage connected equipment. Lightning, automatic garage doors, power tools, refrigerators and fluorescent lights all cause power surges and voltage spikes that effect phone lines and coax cables. Monster's SurgeGuard detects harmful power surges and voltage spikes before they reach components. This HTS 400 also features special surge protection for coax cables used for DSS and cable TV connections. Other surge protectors can result in as much as 20 to 30 dB of signal loss, which ultimately affects the output performance of coax connections. Monster's ultra-low loss RF circuitry provides virtually no signal loss to maintain peak performance. Best of all, an audible surge alarm and visual surge indicator warn you of harmful surges and let you know you're getting the most advanced protection available. AC Power pollution can degrade the performance you expect from your home theater components. Unless you live directly behind Hoover Dam, your AC power is most likely "polluted" by appliances sharing the same power line with your home theatre components. Air conditioners, microwave ovens - even your neighbor's freezer - all can generate electromagnetic interference and radio frequency noise, which pollutes the AC power and degrades both audio and video performance. Even your home theater components can generate noise interference, which also contributes to dirty AC power. As a result, your home theater will deliver inferior sound and picture. You'll hear a loss of dynamic range and resolution with a compressed soundstage. You'll see a lack of sharpness and color detail lessening the home theatre experience. Monster's Clean Power Circuitry filters out power pollution for more natural sound and better TV picture. Designed by world-renowned AC power expert Richard Marsh, Monster's Clean Power Circuitry uses special filters to dramatically reduce electronic noise on your AC power line. You'll see a more vivid picture and hear more natural sound with increased dynamic range and less noise. Monster PowerCenters make life easier. Monster's FlatProfile plug lets you push your furniture flush against the wall. And, with color-coded outlets and cord labels, you can avoid unplugging your VCR by mistake, causing it to blink "12:00." Finally, a generous eight-foot Monster power cord, which is the optimum length to reach most electrical outlets, is included. Maximize your system's protection. Now you can get protection from harmful surges, voltage spikes and inconvenience! Monster's PowerCenters offer high performance solutions for today's technology challenges.

It worked
About two years ago lightening hit my phone line and destroyed everything that wasn't protected. My computer was connected through a Belkin Surgemaster and was spared. My satellite receiver was fried and the surge fed back out to the dish and also fried the LNB. After that I purchased an HTS 400 because besides the electrical connections, it also has phone line and satellite cable protection. I only gave it 4 stars because I couldn't see a difference in my TV reception. Last week I had an electrical malfunction which sent 240 through two circuits in my house. The HTS 400 was sacrificed but everything connected was spared. I will be getting a replacement for it but this time I'll get it from Amazon for half the price that I paid for the first one at Best Buy.
Good entry-level surge protector from Monster
I originally bought this product 2 yrs ago, when I purchased a new & expensive HDTV for the home. I thought it was a good "starter" unit, which included more than enough power and coaxial outlets. In fact, I would even argue that it has too many coaxial outlets--I mean, who really uses CATV, satellite, AND VHF/UHF? Anyway, more recently, I purchased the MTS400 again for a relative, who also upgraded to an HDTV set.
From a technical perspective, it's hard to say whether the Monster Clean Power(tm) Stage 1 v2.0 filter is really making a difference in providing "noise-free power to [my] sensitive electronic components." I'm not an engineer by training, so I'll have to take Monster's word at it and assume it's not some cheap gimmick. Also, I suppose the "high level of surge protection" advertised by Monster is not really one of those claims you can verify until after the fact. However, if my house ever gets hit by a freak electrical storm, I'll let you know how the HTS400 stands up.
Overall, I'm quite satisfied with this product (thus far...).
Great surge protector
Nice, sturdy design. Doesn't flip on its side like narrow surge protectors do, and it has a nice long cord so it can be positioned around your entertainment center wherever you want it. Also, plugs are color coded to make it easier to figure out which cord is what.
