Product Description
Sony's latest addition to the XBR series, the KP-61XBR300, is the larger of the company's two 1999 HDTV-ready televisions. The 61XBR300 features a new version of the well-received Digital Reality Creation (DRC) video processing. In the process of converting analog signals to digital, DRC increases the number of scanning lines and the number of pixels on NTSC-based material to create a high-resolution picture.Sony branded the 300 series with the name Hi-Scan because of its ability to accept and display the new 1080i and 480p DTV/HDTV signals. Your high-definition program can be viewed in a 16: 9 aspect ratio. The vertical compression performs anamorphic squeeze preserving the additional resolution of anamorphically transferred DVDs, and giving this 4: 3 set the ability to display anamorphic HDTV signals accurately. The 3D digital comb filter and 7-inch CRTs further enhance resolution. Multi-Image Driver (MID) circuitry lends flexibility to the Twin-View 2-tuner Picture-and-Picture. MID enables you to manipulate the size and position of each PIP (picture-in-picture) frame. Each frame can be frozen, allowing you to jot down vital information from a commercial. Sony meets your home theater expectations with a slew of A/V inputs and outputs including a component video input for connection to your HDTV receiver.

Sony's KP-61XBR300 61-inch projection TV features 16:9 widescreen capability and Digital Reality Creation technology, which doubles the pixels on each scan line to create an image with four times the density found in most projection TVs. The Hi-Scan display accepts both 1080i and 480i DTV/HDTV signals, with an optional decoder, while vertical compression enables the TV to display HDTV signals accurately. The 3-D digital comb filter and 7-inch MICROFOCUS picture tubes further enhance resolution for the best possible picture with minimum dot-crawl distortion.
Two-tuner picture-in-picture capability is improved with multi-image driver circuitry, which allows you to freeze, move, and position any picture-in-picture frame. The BrightView lenticular screen has a scratch-resistant dark tint surface that increases black level for brilliant colors.
Component-video inputs support high-resolution digital sources, such as DVD players, and allow you to hook up the Sony KP- 61XBR300 to an HDTV receiver. Customer Reviews
XBR is good; HS is better
Sony's XBR has long been their flagship. It has unparalleled quality, and a good price. It has lots of inputs, and decent built in speakers. But Sony released a comparable model in June 2000. It is the KP 61 HS-10. It is substantially clearer and has twice the scan rate. It is HDTV ready, and boasts more powerful speakers. And what's more, the retail price is far lower. I would look into both before buying, and actually go to a store and see them side by side before buying online.
a wonderful television
this tv is the most exceptional tv in the marketplace today. if you really love to watch your tv programs on the big screen you cant miss with tis one!
