Product Description
Want to get inside your game? Don't settle for just 3D audio and EAX, let Seismic Edge transform your game into an interactive theater experience by adding even more additional rich layers of 5.1 surround sound. How about all those cool movie-like cut scenes, and popular stereo games? While other sound cards simply duplicate all sounds not positioned by the game's programmers in both front and rear speakers, only the Seismic Edge brings the game to life by analyzing each sound and individually positioning them across six distinct speaker channels. How about some 5.1 channel music between games? Philips Seismic Edge grabs you out of the audience and puts you center stage, enveloped in sound from every direction. While other sound cards simply play the same two channels of music in both front and rear speakers, Seismic Edge immerses you in 5.1 distinctly different channels of sound. Not ready to invest in four or 5.1 channel surround speakers just yet? Seismic Edge expands music, games even DVDs to 3 dimensions even with ordinary stereo speakers. The power behind Seismic Edge is in the Philips ThunderBird Avenger audio accelerator. This powerful DSP (Digital Signal Processor) can process up to 256 distinct sounds simultaneously with minimal consumption of your computer's power. This "extreme" hardware accelerator assures ultra high-fidelity audio while freeing your computer to concentrate its power on better graphics and game speed. With up to 96 available concurrent 3D streams, and with EAX 2.0 and A3D 1.0 game compatibility, Seismic Edge delivers the most powerful audio force for your PC available today. For the most intense game experience possible, turn your games into a true home theater experience with the Philips Seismic Edge!

the price went up
In case you are wondering, this card(info not given) is the Philips Seismic Edge 5.1. It has 96 3d voices and 256 direct sound voices(not 64-3d, 128 voices as in the discription.) I ordered it just to take a chance on it being the card I suspected it to be. It is. It is a 5.1 sound card, but the info is incorrect, it should say 96-3d voices and 256 d3d.
This is a very good card for the price I payed(which has gone up since I bought it-hense the 3 stars). It works very well in games like Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale where spoken dialogue is key. The EAX effects are weak, but with a good speaker set can be heard and are well enough for me. With the Creative inspire 5.1 speaker set, I cannot give an acurate rating. Although they work well, I suspect that a higher RMS would be less irritating. The treble(highs) is terrible no matter where you adjust the slider. It stings my ears. The bass is pretty good. The 1.89 WDM drivers are defaulted to "flat" so you'll have to adjust them to taste. I personally find the "flat" sounds like I am listening with earplugs(probably from listening to that treble hiss for so long) and with the treble slider turned to 50% sounds better, but much too sharp and unnatural in games and DVD's.(not to mention it makes my ears ring) I don't know, I think it maybe the speakers are only designed for creative products. But I'm not going to bet on it.(can't blame one for the other's mistake).
