Customer Reviews
Non-stop power and lots of it.
I came overseas with a Triplite UPS that I found out wouldn't work, so I called Triplite Customer service and they said their unit would not work with 50 cycle power, which I have here. I saw this unit, read the reviews, and crossed my fingers and ordered. So far so good. The unit recognizes the 50 Hz power (coming through a 220/110 transformer) and works like a charm.
I'm a IT professional working overseas and I keep a test network in my apartment for evening work and experiments. I installed this unit 8 months ago and it works perfectly. We've had two or three blackouts every day, and we've had voltage surges probably a dozen times a day. I have no other protection for my equipment than this UPS and I have not lost anything connected through it. (In contrast, I now have fried two Makita cordless drill battery chargers in my shop because of voltage irregularities.)
I bought this unit for my server and one client, and I plugged another client into the 350VA unit. I also have a printer/fax/scanner plugged into this UPS and a couple smaller items (a small switch, cellphone charger, etc.) The thing has 10 outlets and there is plenty of space. Note that one outlet on either side has extra space so you don't have to block out an extra outlet with a fat transformer type of powersupply.
Some things about this UPS. There are 10 receptacles on top. 5 of them work off the battery while the other 5 don't BUT they do pass through the surge protection--which is where I attach my cellphone battery chargers, etc.
Frankly I don't know why more UPSs don't have the receptacles on top. I'm forever plugging something out or in temporarily and it is totally convenient to have the plugs on top. That is a huge convenience point for me.
The device has a built-in outlet wiring checker: a red light (LED), when lit, tells you there is some problem with the power being supplied. The UPS checks to make sure the power/ground are on the right prongs. That was great since my house was wired wrong, so I fixed it and now that little red light is off.
The "off" switch only turns off the battery-side power outlets, not the ones that are only on the surge protector, so it doesn't make a handy switch to turn off everything. I don't use the switch since I have the battery set up for automatically turning off if the power is off for more than 10 minutes.
The software went in easy and then I decided I didn't want it, and it removed just as easily.
Later, I decided to re-load the software since it allows you to program a quick shutdown to protect the battery or slow shutdown to keep the unit running as long as possible, or any point in between. We have frequent (more than twice a day) black outs here, so I don't really want a quick shutdown since the blackouts are only for 1 to 5 minutes each time, and I don't want to shutdown.
Loading and unloading the software is painless so I find it is easy to experiment to find the right solution.
There is also surge protection for a phone/internet line, but I have never used it, so cannot comment.
I also have the 350VA which I reviewed separately--saying almost exactly what I said here. This is an first-class product that I will continue to buy and recommend.
UPDATE ON JAN 15, 2008. I've had the UPS for 12 months now and it has been terrific. I just noted on the software that in the past 4 weeks I have had 63 power outages and 2 overvoltage situations where the UPS kicked in. My Windows 2003 Server is hooked up to it, and has never gone out. Our outages here tend to be short---just until the emergency generator kicks in. This is a rock solid performer and I'm glad I got it and the other three 350VA models.
What's not to like?
Great unit. 5 battery/surge protected and 5 surge protected outlets. Separate space for blocks. Coax and phone surge protection for backdoor protection. I have a 725 ES and got this 750 ES too. I also had a small halogen lamp connected and during the last total blackout I really appreciated having fifteen minutes of light when I got home to gather the candles, batteries, etc.
Rock Solid!
I purchased this UPS for my network attached storage (NAS). The best part about the Back-UPS 750VA is that it can be configured to support a USB link. This means that the UPS will shutdown your computer or NAS (if supported) in the event of a power failure. Pretty cool. Also, please note the dimensions of this unit; it's very large, but then again all UPS units are pretty big!
