Customer Reviews
GREAT HD PICTURE POOR ANALOG AND DVD
I bought this TV with great expectations. The HD channels are just plain spectacular. Especially live sports.
The lower channels have a poor picture. It was far better on my old 4:3 HD CRT set.
DVD is also noticeably worse. I use quality cables, and a Denon upconverting player, with a HDMI connection.
This is not what I expected. The place where I bought said that this is generally true. That's why when you go into a store, they are connected to a preprogrammed HD connections, so you see it at it's best.
To Darren...It's not at all unfair..I didn't expect the analog and DVD's to be as good as high definition, but I did expect the picture to be at least as good as on my old conventional set.
Lastly, be aware, even the high definition channels don't always broadcast in hi def, in fact most broadcast less than 50%, leaving you with a fair picture. Again, the hi definition when broadcast is exactly what Darren says, spectacular.
UPDATE....I'm having problems with the TV. I have the TV 6 months now. After being on awhile, the screen goes totally black, but the power light blinks like it's just been turned on. Sometimes the picture comes back on in a few seconds, other times, several minutes. Sony is coming to check it out, but they are unfamiliar with the problem.
2nd update...Still having the same problem..The Technician says it check out fine..So why do I lose picture and sound 1-2 times a day while watching? They don't know and are reluctant to do anything about it.
Do not buy from Amazon
The TV looked ok when it was delivered. Unfortunately the delivery guy did not plug it in and check to see if it would start before he left. It didn't! Sony support said there was definitely something wrong with it. What kind of customer service should you expect from Amazon.com.
Well first off all you can't talk to them on the phone. Second you are left with a brand new damaged TV and this is there wonderful response email.
"Thank you for contacting us at Amazon.com.
I apologize that we are unable to contact you directly by phone as
you requested.
Unfortunately, we do not make outgoing phone calls. Rest assured, however, that we are committed to helping resolve this matter.
I am sorry to hear that you were not satisfied with your television.
Unfortunately, as noted in our returns policy posted on our web site (http://www.amazon.com/help/returns), we cannot accept the return of televisions 27 inches and larger after delivery.
"
How do they quote "we are committed to helping resolve this matter"?
I thought I could trust Amazon.com. I'm left with a broken expensive TV. I am truly disappointed to say the least.
Great HD TV for the price
The previous review is accurate but a bit unfair. You cannot expect a High Definition TV to deliver high definition quality picture to television broadcasts or other input sources like DVD when those sources do not offer high definition resolution.
For broadcasts which are offered in high definition, the color and clarity of image produced is spectacular. Some people who have seen programs on this set assume it's a plasma and are surprised to hear that it's not. Some have even said certain programs appear to have a 3-d quality. The quality of the HD is that good.
Of course, the exterior is not as thin as a plasma set however for the size of the television, it's still thinner than most units.
Overall, this is a great HD unit for the price. If you are not willing to spend the extra cash on a plasma set but want a great HD picture, this unit will meet your needs.
