Customer Reviews
Decent home fax machine
I was concerned that this model might be as bad as the 1240 model, but after about a week of use, the 1040 model is working good. No paper feeding problems when sending faxes.
The fax machine is sharing the same line as my regular phone with no problems, but you must physically locate your answering machine next to the fax so that you can plug it into your fax machine for this to work. Messages go to the answering machine, and faxes go to the fax machine just as they should.
Quality Fax at a reasonable price
This machine does everything that I hoped it would do and it does it flawlessly. Copies and transmissions are crystal clear, there are no paper jams, and set-up is simple with great directions. I thought about one of the cheaper machines but after reading reviews and doing research, I decided on this HP 1040 plain paper, ink jet. The film types seem to be a lot of trouble-this ink jet is a dream! Highly recommended. If you need a simple fax machine for occasional faxing and copying, this is the one to buy.
Quality is questionable.
My first HP 1040 Fax lasted about 3 weeks before it stopped working. You had to continuously jiggle the cord in the back in order for it to turn on. HP replaced it had no charge. Now, about 3 months later, the same thing is happening with the 2nd. It just went out one day. I jiggle the cord in the back and it sometimes comes back on, but doesn't stay on. The thing is that the fax is hardly ever used. Maybe once/week and yet I've had 2 now that don't work. I haven't called yet to find out if they will replace the 2nd now that the 90 day warranty is over.
