Amazon.com Product Description
Sony's DAV-FX10 home theater system gives you everything you need to turn your living room your own personal cinema befitting of today's demanding surround sound Hollywood blockbusters. This Sony Dream System features a 5-disc progressive scan DVD player/changer that's compatible with SACD discs and has an integrated receiver that provides 1,000 watts of total system power output. It also comes with a six-speaker, 5.1 surround sound system (one subwoofer with 7.9-inch driver, one center channel, two front satellites, and two rear satellites), and offers Dolby Digital, DTS, and Pro Logic II processing for surround sound from DVD, VHS, and stereo sources.

The slot-loading 5-disc DVD player/changer is compatible with a wide range of disc formats, including standard music CDs, SACDs, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, CD-R/RW, as well as MP3 audio files and JPEG image files. Other features include a 12-bit, 108 MHz DAC (digital to analog converter) and three play modes (shuffle, program, repeat). Sony's Precision Cinema Progressive detects image changes at the pixel level versus other types that detect image changes at the scan line level. Separate algorithms are used to process the moving and still parts of an image to achieve sharper backgrounds and moving objects that are free from motion artifacts.

This system also offers SACD (Super Audio Compact Disc) playback for high-resolution audio that carries a one-bit Direct Stream Digital signal, recorded at a phenomenal 2.8224 MHz sampling rate. SACD supports both stereo and multi-channel music reproduction.

This set of compact speakers are perfect for rooms with little space to spare. They're designed using precision crossover assemblies to ensure that all speakers blend and recreate a seamless soundstage. TodayÕs discrete digital surround formats are able to reproduce the same sound throughout every speaker. If a variance in speaker drivers, crossover settings, or driver material occurs from one speaker to the next, the pitch and surround illusion can suffer. Sony speakers are designed using matching driver compliments and crossovers to ensure perfect blending.

The integrated receiver/amplifier features a 6-channel amplifier (143 watts x 5, plus 285 watts for subwoofer), sleep timer, Bass Boost functionality, and AM/FM digital tuner with 30 total available presets. It provides the following connections:

  • Composite Video In: 2
  • Composite Video Out: 1
  • S-Video Out: 1
  • Component Video Out: 1 (Y/Pb/Pr)
  • Analog Audio Input: 1 optical and 1 coaxial
  • Headphone: 1

Sony DAVFX10 Home theatre ---- very impressive5
I recently purchased the sony davfx10 and i am very impressed with the sound quality. i had a less expensive model froma different company before and it does not compare to the clarity of the sony. the design is also very slick with a very stylish reciever that. speakers mount very easily to the wall... just put a screw in the wall and the speaker simply hangs on it. setup was done in 15 min . i recommend turning up the rear speakers in the setup menu a couple decibles because it really enhances the surround sound alot. I would reccomend this to anyone looking for a great system, with clear sound and multiple audio inputs to connect xbox, cable, etc and listen to them in surround sound.

ALL I CAN SAY IS WOW!!!!!5
I purchased this system after a couple of weeks of researching Home Theater Systems. I decided on the Sony because it had the inputs that I needed at an affordable price. Plus Sony has always treated me good with other products.

I had no problem hooking up the system and I was blown away by the sound! I put in the War of the Worlds DVD and it shook my living room. I don't even know how high the volume can go because level 25 is very loud. Someone said in their review that the sound was bad, but I don't see how that is unless they hooked it up wrong.

It has an optical audio input and a digital coaxial input. I used the optical for my Xbox and Halo2 sounds great. Now I have finally completed my home theater experience because I already had the 51" HD TV!! I am one happy customer.

High quality sound for the money5
I bought my 1st home theatre system back in 1996. I paid more then than I did for this system now. The funny thing is that this system would have cost me over a thousand dollars back then. Mind you this is without the 5 disc DVD/CD changer. They only had CD players back then. Anyway, the system came with very clear instructions on the set up & install. There is no need in purchasing speaker wire which is normally necessary when buying a home theatre system. What is even better is the fact that the speaker wires are color & polarity coded to avoid running the speaker wire to the wrong speaker or to the wrong input on the receiver. They are even cut to length based on if the speakers or surround rear or front speakers. The sound is very clear & the powered subwoofer will make your walls shake. I was surprised at the amount of sound output for the low price I paid for the system. There is even a Sony technical support line phone number that will help you troubleshoot problems if you run into any in the installation.
The only negative thing that I see with the system is the fact that there are only two additional Video input jacks on the receiver. This is a problem for me because I could not integrate my VCR with the Tivo satellite receiver & Playstation 2 that I have connected to the receiver.
