Good performer !!
I have a Pentium 4 3.6Ghz (560J) cpu installed in DFI lanparty 875P-T motherboard. Earlier I was having zalman CNPS7000B-Alcu (with AS5 compound) which made this cpu idle around 40 degree
celcius and more than 80 degree celcius easily during video encoding or with prime95 (large FFT) cpu torture test. I had to run the cpu at lower speed than stock to do video encoding. This zalman worked fine for me when I was having 3.2Ghz (540) on same motherboard. So, thought of upgrading my heatsink/fan and
bought this Thermaltake big typhoon heatsink. Below are my experience and comments.
Installation:

Base of the heatsink is not very smooth. I did not want to spend
time on lapping the base to make it smooth and decided to install it as it is. I used AS5 thermal compound.
The installation went little difficult for me as the standoffs (yellow nuts) did not go into the screws coming from base H-plate easily, I tightened it in hard way. May be the piece I got have this problem.
After I tightened the standoffs on screws, I noticed motherboard is bent little bit. May be I tightened little too much? My opinion is even if I tighten too much, it should not bend the board. I thought I damaged the motherboard. But fortunately, after full installation, system was coming up fine.
Otherthan these problems, installation went ok. Also, note that you have to take out the motherboard to install this and make sure you have enough space in your case to install this huge heatsink.
Performance:

With Thermaltake big typhoon, idle temperature is around 34 degree celcuis and I saw a max temperature of 60 degree celcius with prime95 cpu torture test (large FFT) or during video encoding. Thats about 20 degree celcius less than previous HSF (zalman 7000-Alcu) during load. If the base of the heatsink is very smooth, may be it would have performed still better.
I give only 4 stars because of installation problem I went through and for not having very smooth base for heatsink.
*** UPDATE *** 6/8/2006
Recently replaced my motherboard (same socket type, 775), but unfortunately I could not move this heatsink to new motherboard. The H-shaped rubber which need to be sticked on backside of motherboard, does not come out to put it in new motherboard. so, if you are frequent changer of motherboard, you have to think about buying this one, OR manufacture should supply 2 or 3 spares of one time usable parts of this heatsink with package.
...some advice for the backplate during installation
This is a very, very good cooler. I run ~15 degrees celsius cooler, under load, versus the stock AMD hsf combo.
Measure the dimensions of the area in your case above and to the sides of your CPU. This thing is HUGE. In a full desktop case, I could only install this after completely disassembling the machine, and then cramming everything back together by flexing the motherboard and the heatpipes more than I should have.
Not only is the setup wide, it's very tall. My case cover barely slides over the top of the fan.
During installation, follow all of the packagted instructions, except for the step that tells you to remove the backing from the motherboard side of the retaining bracket. If you don't expose the sticky side of the pad, you'll be able to reuse this heatsink.
Great Performance, Possibly Difficult Installation
I purchased this cooler for a Core2Duo CPU, and it works just fine. I was impressed with the cooling ability; it's currently cooling the CPU to 29 degrees Celsius at idle, haven't tested at full load just yet.
I will warn any users that they may have a hard time installing this beast. I installed this on an EVGA 680i board, and inserted into an Antec 900 case. This procedure was very difficult, much more so than typical heatsink installs.
You are forced to install the heatsink before mounting the motherboard into the case. By installing it this way, the sheer size of the heatsink blocks access to one of the motherboard mounting screws (the one behind the PS/2 ports). In addition, the height of this cooler when mounted leaves less than an inch of clearance between the heatsink fan and the side of the case. It does not seem to affect the CPU cooling, but it might cause problems with the overall case airflow. I have not had enough time to test this fully.
Aside from these minor faults, this product appears to be well worth the purchase.
