Amazon.com Product Description
Not everyone has the space or the desire for a large-scale audio system, which is where the JVC UX-G50 comes into play. Combining a small size, elegant design, and topnotch sound quality, the system accommodates a variety of digital formats while fitting beautifully in a space-challenged bedroom or kitchen. More significantly, the UX-G50 is no slouch from a power perspective, with a total output of 240 watts spread between its pair of two-way bass-reflex speakers. The end result is a stereo that can fill up your small room with big-time sound.
The UX-G50's main unit includes an AM/FM tuner and a five-disc CD changer that supports CD, CD-R/RW, and MP3 (on CD-R/RW) playback, along with such playback features as 32-track programming, repeat play, and random play. Listeners can also plug a digital audio player, such as an iPod or iRiver MP3 player, into the system's front auxiliary input. Once connected, the system immediately detects signals from the portable player, turns on the power, and switches the source to auxiliary, so users don't need to fiddle with the remote to find the correct source. And thanks to the USB PC link, you can stream music directly from your PC to the UX-G50, including MP3 and WMA files or Internet radio stations.
The system's pair of speakers, meanwhile, each include a 4.75-inch woofer and a 1.62-inch midrange driver, helping deliver a crisp, powerful audio performance. And though the default sound is pleasing by itself, the system also offers such enhancements as JVC's Active Hyper-Bass Pro, which produces a dynamic bass response and clear vocals, and electronic bass and treble controls for listeners who like to adjust the sound to their tastes.
Additional features include a clock with a sleep timer (the alarm wakes to a CD or radio), ID3 tagging (shows MP3 title and artist information on the screen), a display dimmer, and a wake-up function that gradually increases the alarm's volume level as you stir into consciousness. The UX-G50, which makes a stylish addition to almost any household, is backed by a one-year warranty on parts and labor.

Has Great Potential
I'd love to give this system 5 stars. It has good station reception, pleasing sound, and looks good for a modestly priced system. Alas, as another reviewer stated, the CD trays are thin and flimsy. Worse, my CD's, which play fine on other players I own, frequently skip when being played on this system. 3 Stars is the best I can rate it.
Great mini-shelf system for the buck..
Sound quality is excellent for they price you pay. Main unit was deeper than anticipated though --review the dimensions -- (rendering placement on certain shelves impossible). The CD trays are thin and flimsy so it may not last many years. The remote control comes in very handy. USB audio capability a plus.
A neat and usefull little unit
It has enough wattage and is perfect for a small room, an apartment, condo or a townhouse without blowing out your neighbors next door. It has 5 cd drawers and the system will play MP3's that has been recorded on CDs as well as the music CD's you buy at a music store.
Two reasons for purchasing this are: 1) To be able to plug my Sansa MP3 player into it's Auxiliary input (using a cord with stereo plugs on both ends)to increase the volume and improve sound quality. It works great for this! I know they have units specifically made for the IPODS, but what if you don't have an Ipod? Besides, in my opinion, an IPOD is very expensive as you are paying for the name. My 4 GB Sansa only cost me $99.00 (sale price) at Costco and it's comparable with the IPOD. How much would you have to pay for an equivalent IPOD?
b) I also have a Yamaha Keyboard which I can plug into the same auxiliary input (again using the stereo cable I mentioned above) NOT only to increase the volume, but more important, to IMPROVE the sound quality. There is a tremendous difference between listening to the keyboard via its speaker system versus going through the JVC stereo system. Essentially, you can plug any external output (ie: Tape player, Record Player etc) into this unit. How many of you still have cassete players or a Record Player (turntable?) ... I do!
The JVC has a Sound Boost button which automatically increases or decreases the BASS. However if the sound is too boomy or sound muddy, you can manually control the bass level if you wish. A neat feature! Having the Sound Boost on while playing MP3 Music sounds great, but this increased bass when playing my Keyboard makes the sound too muddy. No problem ... I can lower the bass a couple of notches and it sounds great!
It has an AM/FM tuner and a clock which can be set as an alarm to play music via the Radio or on of the CD's. And a Remote control, albeit you have to be within the line of site (from the remote to the unit) for it to be effective.
Yes, the CD trays are flimsy (as previous reviewers have mentioned), but with care, it shouldn't be much of a problem. You just can't jam things in it (as when you're in a big hurry) where you lean on the tray. It's pretty flimsy for this to hold up.
Over all it makes for the perfect Stereo System for someone whose requirement is to have great quality sounds but NOT necessarily blow out the next door neighborhood. Also, for someone who's on a limited budget. Great for a kid's room ???
Why only the 4 stars. OK, because of its flimsy trays and its bulkiness. It is fairly long approximately 16" in length which makes it stick out pretty far when you place it on a shelf or a bedroom dresser.
But overall, I am pretty happy with the unit!
