Works well, a bit of a pain, though
First of all, this humidifier is quiet. I keep it next to my bed and the very faint noise doesn't bother me at all. I use only distilled water in it. That's a little expensive, but I can get one-gallon jugs at Wal-Mart for sixty four cents, so it's better than having white dust all over the room. This model has a "white dust" filter, but most such filters are iffy at best.
Now for the problems. Filling is a pain. If it's not completely empty, water remains in the base, which tends to drip and spill when you lift the tank off for re-filling. So I carry the whole unit to the sink just to make sure I don't get water all over my carpet. (Water can spill if you don't keep the unit level.) Further, the refill opening is on the bottom, so you have to turn the tank upside down to fill it. The tank top is slanted, so you can't set it down. You have to hold the tank with one hand, and fill with the other. It's a very clumsy process.
The last thing I have to say is the blue light is incredibly annoying. It lights up your whole bedroom and can't be turned off. I wrap a towel around it. What were they thinking? Sure, it looks cool, until you try to go to sleep.
Overall, though, it works nicely and has been quiet, which is exactly why I bought it and am keeping it. If you are elderly or arthritic, the girations you need to go through to fill it may cause you to look elsewhere.
Looks cool! Kids will love it! You'll hate it.
You can't fill the tank without holding it because the top is slanted. If you over-fill it, the water will run down from the fill opening between the inner blue tank and the white outer housing dripping all the way back to the base which will actually catch and use the excess water once you have the tank seated.
The mineral filter does NOT stop the white dust from covering everything. You may not notice until it's too late to return the unit. Look at a glass TV screen or lay a a CD or DVD mirror side up in the room and it will have crud on it in 24 hours. Our water hardness here is fairly low (120 ppm). The only solution is to purchase DISTILLED water. Forget it.
Kids will like the cool blue Alien look of the unit which will double as a great night light. Be warned adults, it cannot be turned off if you want to use it!
Thanks for the sticky label on the top of the unit. It is of the inconsiderate type that shreds when you try to remove it. My friendly label removing solution smeared the plastic on the top of the tank as I tried to remove the remnants.
The good news is that the generation of mist is silent. You will only hear water gulps.
quiet!!!!!!!!
I have this in my office. It is great, because it is so quiet. I am not sure I would trust it for a very big room, since they box says it is for rooms up to 300 sq. ft. But, my office is about 15 feet x 12 feet, and it works great! It is also easy to fill.
