Zodiac watches
Zodiac watches are one of those brands that are deceptive in their advertising. They imply that they are made in Switzerland by signing thier watches Swiss made. They are actually made in the Fossil factory in California from Swiss supplied parts, and this is how Zodiac gets away with claiming to be Swiss made. This information was provided to be my their own sales tech on the phone after asking some questions regarding a Zodiac I sent in for service. This is a fairly common trick used in the watch market today. A huge number of name brand watches do this. Invicta is another example. They buy a Swiss name brand that has a substantial history, and then start fitting these cases with cheap quartz movements. When the consumers caught on to this, they then started assembling movements from Swiss supplied parts and calling them Swiss made. On the positive side of things for Zodiac, I have to say their watches are all built like tanks. Truthfully very artfully done. Some models are a work of art to say the least. Solid steel bracelets and cases. Excellent watersealing. The only complaint I have for Zodiac is, they always use cheap mineral glass crystals and that sucks badly. They are prone to scratching and it is not cheap to have them replaced. You can send the watch to a watchmaker and have them fit it with a real saphire crystal, and I highly reccomend it. Overall, Zodiac is an awesome watch for the dollar, Even though they really are made by Fossil, a Japanese company. DO NOT BUY IT IN A RETAIL STORE OR YOU WILL PAY TOO MUCH. I reccomend buying these brands on the net or eBay. The other complaint I have is, if you need extra links, they will give them to you free of charge, but you have to send the watch to them. They dont want you having a jeweler install the links for some reason. Still a hot brand as long as you know what you REALLY are buying, and take that into account when considering the price.
