Product Description

One of the most important accessories for each lens you own. A lens hood provides multiple functions: it shades the lens from stray light, improving your contrast and image quality; in inclement weather, it can assist in keeping moisture or wind-blown debris off the lens; and it protects the front barrel from the inevitable impacts against walls, door frames, and other real-life obstacles.

Customer Reviews

Meets/Exceeds Expectations5
Since the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 didn't come with a lens hood, I figured I'd take a chance on a third party version, as reviews for the Canon lens hood stated it was more bothersome than anything else. This lens hood is made of solid plastic, and screws directly onto the front end of the lens, without having to use any sort of converter. I'm happy to say I'm completely satisfied with my purchase, and will consider Adorama products in the future.

Works Fine4
Of course it works just fine but it does not reverse on the lens for storage as do canon hoods. But, beings it's such a small lens it's not that big of a deal but when your camera bag is jammed with gear every inch counts.

Works perfect!4
This is a great little lens hood to go with it's lens, after reading reviews on the canon hood for the 50mm 1.8, I decided to go with this, as most reviews on it were poor. This hood from adorama works just as it's supposed too. Threads directly onto the front of the lens. The lens cap can be put on over top of the hood, however it doesn't sit as tightly as a lens cap would without the hood on, but it does anchor in fairly well. As I can't judge canon's hood for the lens (since I don't own it) I recommend that you buy this hood.

*As a side note, this can't be reversed on the lens for storage like canon's...but it's also $8 cheaper and a few flicks of the wrist to take it off to put the lens back in my bag isn't a big deal. But even with the hood on the entire length of the lens+hood is only about 4 inches.
