good introduction to graphic/information design
I was very excited when I first saw this book in Barnes and Noble. But after reading it, I kept on turning the pages hoping that the next chapter will give me the insightful, in depth information was hoping to get from it. Instead the book gave me very basic information that most graphic designers with a college education would already know. Obvious things like consistency, gestalt theory, hierarchy are covered. There was nothing too new or unconventional or even inspiring. The best that I got out of the book was that it helped reinforce the importance of certain things that I have a bad habit of not doing (like using a grid). This is a great book for a beginner, but if you are looking to go into information design (I am not sure if there even is any book that will provide something more in depth) this book isn't one of them.
Excellent Info Design Book
After reading many books on the topic, attending popular seminars and scouring the Web this book presented itself as a comprehensive, easy to read resource. If the purposed of good information design is clear, direct and easy to consume information then this book practices what it preaches. The material covered is incredibly relevant for anyone who is looking to improve their approach to interactive design. The book is loaded with real world examples that make the design philosophies covered something tangible for use in a designers daily thought process and client discussions.
excellent guide
Great book to use to introduce students to the topic as well as a refresher for anyone interested in information design. Relevant information, smart writing and design, excellent examples. Highly recommended. These two authors are putting out nice books -- recommend them highly.
