Nice but scary
The good news is this is a very nice snorkel for a great price. It fit great, worked fine, etc. The bad news was clearing it out after going under the water.
If you have never snorkled, generally, when you are snorkeling you have your face in the water but head floating, breathing through the tube. If you are like me and others, sometimes you want to dive down deeper so you can see something better. In my past experience, doing this involved nothing more than diving down, and when surfacing, blowing hard enough to vacate all the water that had filled the snorkel during the underwater portion.
This snorkel didn't permit that though. I don't know what they were trying to do with it. Instead of blowing all the air from my lungs up out of the snorkel to expel the water, it blew the air out through the bottom of the snokel off a special vent. My guess is that this is supposed to make what I was doing easier -- i.e., you blow the water out easier. In reality, it didn't work at all -- it meant that all I did was blow the air out of my lungs and some of the water, but when I went to breath, there was still water in the tube which I sucked in. Yuck.
Perhaps mine was faulty. Or perhaps you're supposed to do something different -- I can't imagine what. But as it's currently designed, after coming up for air, make sure you take the bloody thing off your head and refit it after emptying the water, because their mechanism otherwise will force you to suck in a few ounces of seawater.
Good for snorkeling
I bought this snorkel for my scuba diving becuse I lost two snorkels already. It fell again when I jump into the water. I recover it quickly this time. I used it later for snorkeling several times. It works very nice. It stays dry if you stay on the surface of the water. The purge function is useful after I submerge into the water.
great product
Bought this for my 5 year old sone who someday wants to scuba dive. He uses it in the bath tub and has also used in a pool. Very easy for him to use and attach to a mask. This is the second of this brand he has had and love it!
