About the Author
Stan and Jan Berenstain were both born in 1923 in Philadelphia. They didn't know each other as children, but met later at school, at the Philadelphia College of Art. They liked each other right away, and found out that the both enjoyed the same kinds of books, plays, music and art. During World War II, Stan was a medical assistant in the Army, and Jan worked in an airplane factory. When the war was over, they got married and began to work together as artists and writers, primarily drawing cartoons for popular magazines. After having their two sons Leo and Michael, the Berenstains decided to write some funny children's books that their children and other children could read and enjoy. Their first published children's book was called The Big Honey Hunt . It was about a family of bears, who later became known as the "Berenstain Bears".

Over 50 children's books later, Stan and Jan still plan all of their books together -- both write the stories, and both write the pictures. They live outside of Philadelphia in the country.

Those battling Bears!5
"The Berenstain Bears Get in a Fight," by Stan and Jan Berenstain, is another wonderful entry in this excellent series of illustrated children's books. In this volume, there's trouble brewing in the Bear family when Brother and Sister Bear start feuding. But, with a little helpful guidance from their caring parents, the sparring siblings learn some life lessons about fighting--and about making up.

This book pairs an easy-to-read text with colorful illustrations. These semi-human bears have an amusingly "cartoony" look to them, and the best of the book's illustrations contain delightful details. I especially love the pictures that show the Bears going through their daily routine--eating breakfast, riding the bus to school, etc. I give "The Berenstain Bears Get in a Fight" an enthusiastic recommendation.

Two boys' review: Helps parents reinforce sibling harmony5
I like to bring this bedtime book out after a rough day between our 5-year old and 4-year old boys. Like the Berenstain Bears books, the story allows us to discuss the bears' behavior first and follow that up with a discussion about the boys' behavior.

For young readers, the Berenstain Bears offer an easy-to-understand storyline to which children can relate.

This is one of the better, more accessible books in the Berenstain Bears collection. We also own and recommend:

The Berenstain Bears and the Trouble with Chores
The Berenstain Bears Help Around the House
The Berenstain Bears Forget Their Manners
The Berenstain Bears Get in a Fight
The Berenstain Bears Learn About Strangers
The Berenstain Bears and the Bad Dream

You can pick up these books at a good price through Amazon's 4-for-3 promotion. I like the soft covers, which can be rolled up as stocking stuffers.

GREAT5
This book is great. It starts with Brother and Sister getting along. Then Sister has her feet in Brother's face and he gets angry. Then she runs off and hogs the bathroom. They act like total jerks to each other. Finally they make up at the end and talk to each other again.
