The names are oh, so familiar to fans of college football. Legendary coaches Bud Wilkinson and Barry Switzer. Bob Stoops, architect of a new Sooner dynasty. Heisman winners Billy Vessels, Steve Owens, Billy Sims and Jason White. Unforgettable running backs from Greg Pruitt to Joe Washington to Adrian Peterson. Unstoppable option quarterbacks like Jamelle Holieway and J.C. Watts; great passers like Josh Heupel and White. Fearsome defenders from Lee Roy to the Boz to Roy Williams and Rocky Calmus. These names and countless others have given Oklahoma football an unmatched tradition and legacy of greatness. In this book, we’ve distilled that tradition into words and pictures. But it’s a daunting task, as few programs inspire the loyalty and passion that Oklahoma football exacts from its fans. As James Garner, the actor who is a Norman native and lifelong OU fan, says during the pregame introductions: "This is Oklahoma football!"

From the Inside Flap
The numbers are overwhelming. Seven national championships (and counting). A 47-game winning streak. Twenty-four bowl victories. Four Heisman Trophy winners. Dozens of All-Americans. Countless statistical milestones. But the numbers alone don’t do justice to the impact that Oklahoma football has had and continues to have on its legion of fans. What takes place at storied Owen Field is more than simply a game; it’s a way of life. Sooner coach Bob Stoops put it this way after OU captured the 2000 national championship: "Our players recognize the history of Oklahoma is about winning championships. We already had six national championships. Now, we have seven. You can’t say, ‘Well that was then, this is now.’ This is Oklahoma football." Game Day: Oklahoma Football is a celebration of the Sooner spirit and of the decades of gridiron excellence that have inspired it.

BOOMER SOONER!
When it comes right down to it there is just nothing better than Saturdays in the Fall and settling in to watch a day full of college football. The spectacle...the tradition...it is unlike any other sport. One university that just screams tradition is Oklahoma. The Sooners have been one of those perennial powerhouses for decades and Triumph Books gives them their just tribute in Game Day: Oklahoma Football, another in their fantastic line of books spotlighting college footballs most famous programs. The book highlights OU's rich tradition and pageantry, it's great games, coaches, players, and moments, not to mention the Sooner Schooner, first introduced in 1964. Read all the lyrics to"Boomer Sooner" and "Oklahoma"!
Oklahoma boasts four Heisman Trophy winners and over a hundred and forty All-Americans, OU has been blessed with some of college footballs greatest players including Brian Bosworth, Keith Jackson, Steve Owens, Greg Pruitt, Lee Roy Selmon, Billy Sims, and my favorite Sooner Joe Washington. It was Washington who inspired me to spray paint my cleats purple when I was in high school as he had painted his silver.
When you talk OU coaches you have to start with the great Bud Wilkinson who won over 80% of his games and amassed an NCAA 47 game winning streak and three national championships. Barry Switzer would equal Wilkinson with three championships of his own in 1974, 1975, and 1985. The OU program struggled in the 1990's until Bob Stoops arrive and restored the glory in 1999, winning the national title in 2000. The book takes you on a journey through all of Oklahoma's championship seasons.
Relive some of the Sooners' greatest games including the 1971 "game of the century" against archrival Nebraska, the 1993 thrashing of Texas, the 25 - 10 pasting of Penn State in the 1986 Orange Bowl, and the 1977 last second win over Ohio State in 1977.
This beautiful hardcover book features stunning phtography that puts you right on the field of play! The great rivalries against Nebraska, Tesas, and Oklahoma State and comments from former players round out another enjoyable edition from Triumph Books. A true testament to the greatness that is Oklahoma football!

Must have OU book
This is a great coffee table book for any Oklahoma fan. It is hard to carry around though, bulky, and is more for lounging, not for the airplane or a toliet read like most fans want. But I really think if you have a Sooner fan in your family, you should get this for them. Also, a book taht is easy to handle, fun read, and OU specific... try :UNIVERSITY OF OKLAHOMA FOOTBALL: An Interactive Guide to the World of Sports (Sports By the Numbers).
