These days she's fodder for tabloid writers and late-night comics, but way back in the '90s Mariah Carey ruled the charts. This two-disc collection offers up evidence why, for better or worse, Mariah's five-octave, pop/R&B stylings set the diva standard. Greatest Hits culls its offerings from Carey's five albums on Sony (she is now signed to Virgin), and you get all the facets of her platinum-plus sound. From the soulful smolder of her 1990 debut "Vision of Love" (still one of her best tracks) to the coyer-than-thou duet with Jay Z ("Heartbreaker"), Carey thrills, trills, and hits notes that only canines comprehend. Fans will gobble this collection up, but inclusion of some of Carey's more adventuresome remixes (e.g. the Puffy-produced "Fantasy," featuring ODB) might have made this package more noteworthy. --Amy Linden

Dreamy Mood Music5
Mariah Carey is perhaps one of the most beautiful creatures God has ever created. Her sweet sexy voice is so pure and beautiful. The music on this album is for the true romantic.

The first CD is more intense yet still has some very romantic songs, while the second is much deeper and emotional overall.

"Butterfly" is still my favorite song because it speaks of how we are all individual souls that cannot be possessed. It always creates such beautiful images of a summer day and of the freedom to love without possessing. "My All" is highly emotional and one of the most evocative songs about longing I have ever heard.

"I'm thinking of you
In my sleepless solitude tonight
If its wrong to love you
Then my heart just won't let me be right
Cause I'm drowned in you..."

I saw her interviewed once when she was talking about helping children find families and I just thought what a beautiful soul she must be. The inner qualities she possesses seem to come out in her music.

I hope that no matter where life takes her, that she will always find enough unconditional love. It is the soul's deepest desire.

Mariah's voice is just amazing! If you buy only one of her albums, this one would be my recommendation. I would have
been happy without the bonus track.

beautiful voice and amazing artist!5
Mariah has a beautiful voice. She is always coming up with something new and interesting. And as for me and Mariah, we have our own "story"...

I was in love with a cute and beautiful little girl when I was 12 years old (19 now). I remember she loved Mariah Carey, Infact she was mad at her (:)). It was that time when "Music Box" came out and I realy wanted to surprise her with something that she will never forget, something that both of us will never forget...I started to listen to Mariah and discovered why she liked her so much...The vocals, the words, the fealings, the depth, and the soul : "And when a hero comes along.." I bet it reminds you some of the most beautiful times of your life! I sang this song to her and I won a small kiss!! And nowadays I realized that it was something much more deep than a kiss. Mariah exposed me to the music world! I became a true music fan that loves, feels and appreciates good music.

And as for this album, It's not everything about heros after all, Don't you think?? I have all mariah's albums after "Music Box" and everyone of them is unic and sparkling by itself, with each and every one of us's special song that was sang by miss Mariah : A 'Butterfly Diva'.

I recommend this "Greatest Hits" tittle for every music fan. Atlist take your time and listen to it. You'll find out an artist who is very talented and artistic in is own special and different way just like you! And of course 'A Must' for Mariah's fans who're looking for a good Hit-Box-Collection by Mariah!

Mariah is a shining star5
Mariah's Greatest Hits. Although, her latest albums "Glitter" and "Rainbow" are good I miss the classic Angelic ballads from her earlier work. I am dissappointed that Glitter didn't do as well as anticipated, and in fact, I don't really understand because overall it is a good album & the ballads are beautiful. However, I think all the rap/hip-hop in her most recent music is not benefiting her success, & instead it is aiding her in loosing her momentum. No matter what I will always love Mariah & her music, but she has to cool it with the rap sh... Some of it is okay, but enough is enough. The beauty in her songs & emotion is lost with the piercing/& sometimes annoying rap background vocals. Some of it just doesn't fit. However, in the song "Honey", the rap background is acceptable because it's funky, it "fits", & it's not overplayed. Ever since her music has been altered with hip-hop she seems to have lost the significance in her sound. Her song bird & Angelic voice is too beautiful, emotional, and meaningful to add the annoying repetative "hip-hop" nuisance. The songs story line & emotion is lost behind to much of the hip-hop. I must point out that I like how she has experimented with different sounds; such as, funk, dance, & pop - but the hip-hop/rap is becoming too much. Mariah - I still love you & you will always remain a singing sensation, but we want to hear more of your beautiful Angelic voice like in "Never to Far". Aside from all this, you are still a shining star in my book and I will always be a #1 fan. Furthermore, I respect the fact that Mariah does alot for charity & not only does she have the voice of an Angel, but also the heart of an Angel.
